If you were looking at high end production makers ($250+), what steels would you consider as premium steels?

While we all know that steel isn't everything, obviously if you're going to buy a high quality knife at a relatively high cost 8cr13 isn't going to cut it.

M4 and m390 are pretty much at the cutting edge but i don't think a steel has to be cutting edge to qualify as a premium steel

For me it is anything that sound better than the old daddy's S30V, such as M390, XHP, S90V, 204P for stainless, or K390, M4 or 3V for tool steel.

 to this. I'd also throw in some of the crazy stuff like Super Blue and YXR7.

S90V, S110V and M390 in stainless and M4, K390 and 10V for non-stainless are at the top of my premium steel list currently.

High end steels are many of those listed, but S30V, CPM154, XHP/D2 and Elmax are what I'd consider to be average acceptable steels for a knife over $100.

BU Vanadis 10, BU K294, CPM 10V, BU K390 , CPM S110v, CPM S90v, M390, CPM M4, ZDP-189.
With all at high hardness it should be close to in order of above. Some would be to close to tell without precisely controlled testing.
