Hey everybody, I'm just looking for your opinions on what the best small folders are these days. When I say small I mean small. I'm looking for a gentlemen's knife just for performing minute cutting tasks through my day (string, boxes, letters, tags, etc.) I've been looking at the Cricket, Subcom series, lava and a few others. Just looking for something tough that will last me a lifetime if I take care of it. So lets hear it. Thanks :D

Spyderco Kiwi all the way. Wonderful gentleman's knife and you gotta love that Wharncliffe for everyday utility tasks.

Ritter RSK Mk4 .
Not sure if they still have any more for sale though.

Boker Keycoms are nice for the money.

I purchased a titanium Subcom in July. It worked great as an EDC and the blade shape was extremely effective in my relatively minor everyday cutting tasks. I carried it until October when the thumbstud fell off in my pocket (for no reason apparent to me). Now it sits in my bag as a backup two handed opener.

I'm pretty impressed with my Böker Plus Subcom Titan. It doesn't cost that much more than the regular Subcom, but you get a titanium framelock, titanium clip, upgraded steel, and better thumbstud. The Sanrenmu 763 has also impressed me. It's considerably cheaper, but is very smooth, has excellent ergos, carries well, has a hollow grind that slices well, and a bottle opener. I find it a little more practical than the Subcom, and the fit and finish is that of a much more expensive knife.

There are also options like the Spyderco G-10 Dragonfly, and as you mentioned the Lava (which is discontinued, so the price will be high if you can even find one). However, if you're looking for a small blade, you might be best off checking out some of the traditional options from companies like GEC, Queen, and Case. The appeal of traditionals is the compact size and ease of carry, so if you don't need a heavy duty large tactical folder, they might be right up your alley.

I've had my SS Cricket SE for a few years now and highly recommend it, whether as a good little EDC or a money clip it easily excels expectations. If you are looking for a good keychain type of knife, the Spyderco LadyBug, ManBug or Jester are all excellent little knives as well.

Spyderco Cricket all the way! I have a Wharcom and the build quality cannot compare to that of the Spyderco. Also, AUS-8 feels really cheap (edge holding) compared with the Cricket's VG-10. I think the Cricket is the BEST small EDC folder around, it's light, it's tough, it takes a great edge, and it does not cause the Sheeple to scatter.

Kershaw Chive

I've owned one of these for years; it was originally my wife's but she swapped me out for a BM 555s. I would attach a caveat to the Chive: the assisted opening feature can be difficult to close quickly and safely one-handed for some folks. I've got medium to large hands and while I can close my Leek one-handed and blind-folded, underwater, I have to be very deliberate in the closure of the Chive. It's so darned small for an AO that it's hard for me to get a decent grip on it to defeat the torsion bar. Just something to keep in mind.

Check out the Three Sisters Forge version of the Subcom -- the CCT.

S35V steel and rock solid -- a dynamite EDC folder.

I have the Boker Ti Subcom as well and the CCT makes the Boker feel like a toy (at custom prices it should!)

I'm still looking for a micro folder/flipper. I found this on Google images. Made by a Belgian knifemaker. No prices listed on his website either.
