I'm a blade lover and always try to find the best of whatever sort of knife I intend to use. I noticed that I use scissors a lot and only seem to have crappy walmart $2.00 scissors laying around that always need to be replaced. Who makes a really nice pair of scissors. I mean I'm not looking to spend $350.00 on scissors. But if there were a $40.00 pair of scissors that were simply awesome... I'd look into them.

Fiskars have some pretty good scissors out there, I once had a pair of small spring return scissors that could shear through a penny cleanly.

Hi,

My wife tells me that Gingher is the best she's ever owned. I think her scissors cost right around $40 at a fabric/craft store. I have handled them and they are a well made and solid scissors. And after 6 years of use they cut clean and easy.

I use those cheap $2 EMT shears. They will cut almost anything I want and are cheaply replaced.

As always, what is your intended use? The Fiskars 9485 7097 Data Comm Electricians Snip is great at cutting wire, small and handy and has kept a good edge all year.

I have a pair of Klein Electrician scissors that work great. They are stout and cut really well including wiring.

These look really nice! I might have to give them a try.

Gingher is the one for fine fabric cutting.Don't ruin it by cutting other stuff. Paper especially filled [shiney] has abrasive things like clay in it ! When I needed a heavy duty pair to cut cardboard and leather I found a perfect pair , made in Pakistan ,stainless steel for $6 !! Works great !

Kai Shears are awsome. We have 6 pair of the 7000 Series at work for sutting various foams, fiber pads, quilts and kevlar thread. They work great. I think we paid $40-$50 per pair.

At home, I have a henckels pair that works admirably. In the shop, the guys seem to prefer klein or olfa

Ebay and knowledge are your friend. Scissors, like knives, are made for specific things.

Figure out what you want to cut and by scissors to cut that material. I have the Olfa scissors which work well for general household tasks. I have probably a dozen Gingher scissors that are in the "Utility" category. Some work great at cutting denim blue jean seams, other lightweight fabric, still others for paper and cardboard.

On ebay, I got new and near new scissors for $10 that would cost $50 or more elsewhere. This let me "test drive" different styles with little risk because I could resell them for the what I paid if they didn't work out.

As others have mentioned, what is good will depend on your use. For WalMart, the scissors in their office supply area are not all that great, but the ones in the fabric section (if you can find one these days) can be awesome. Fiskars and Singer both make some really nice, reasonably priced scissors. I used to scoff and paying more than a few bucks for scissors until I had to start using them on a daily basis.

For an actual recommendation, I have been really happy with the more expensive models in the Fiskar titanium (I think they call it that) line.

The ones in my local med. supply store are significantly more... Any recomendations on lower-cost sources? Not looking to cheap out, just save a penny or two.

My wife is a quilter and cuts a LOT of fabric. She uses Fiskars, Gingher, Gamco, and Wiss and likes all of them. I don't touch any of them because of threats of injury. :D She lets me use an old pair of Wiss to cut paper.

Wiss best american scissor since WWII, but Wasa is the best german in the same category(post WWII) though generally Im talking about material scissors, there are scissors just to cut paper, silk, candle wicks, button holes, bandage, sewing thread, cuticles, fingernails, canvas, plastic, leather, silver and gold leaf, seriously you name it and there is a scissor for it.
Think straight razor VS hatchet VS fillet knife all totally specific for one media/purpose.
Just like knives it's way more complex underneath the surface.

I've used Wiss airplane snips all my working life.

I didn't realize Wiss also made scissors. Not a big surprise, though.
