I love my Sebenza and I want a Umnumzaan as well but I wanted to know if there was a point to the design of the spine of the blade ??
Personally, I woul prefer a topline like the Sebenza but I was just wondering if it had a purpose or was just for looks.

Are you refering to the dip in front of the handle? When I grip a knife, I often extend my thumb forward to that area for more control of the tip. The Umnumzaan gives me a good platform for this.

its for your thumb. have you ever cut an apple and found your thumb on the spine of the blade to push the blade in a controlled manor? If/when you ever hold the zaan you'll appreciate the way your thumb rests right in there.

I'm not talking about the handle or the upper back of the spine where your thumb rests.
But rather the top of the blade itself between the thumb area and the swedge.
On a Sebenza it's straight down to the tip on the Umnum it has been cut out a bit there.

the swedge stands proud of the spine of the blade so that it can be used more easily as a scraper. if you don't use your cutting edge as a scraper, it'll stay sharp longer.
