I noticed that Gus, in his "I am curious" thread, posted something about getting the topic of knife styles started. After that he locked the thread and did not start a new one. Would everyone like to start here or wait for Gus to get it going? If you would like to get going on this topic here, just start to post, if not, then let me know and we will wait for Gus.

Go the way you want to go folks. This is our forum not mine

.

The thing is finding someone with the time and expertise take it on and get the topic started. We have a good list of makers who have volunteered and we might pick up a few more while we are on the way.

What style were you refering to Keith hunter, dagger folder etc. If you have a preference let me know. Right now I have contacted someone and am waiting on a reply to talk about forged bowies. If that person does not have the time this week, I need to contact another of the volunteers.

Problem is the makers need to make knives.
Gus need to go to his job so he can afford knives

. Then there is some volunteer work and life in general. Every once in a while it is a good thing to take a night off from the forums.

Our Style of the week should not preclude anyone from posting at any time.

What I was thinking about was kind of an overall look at the different styles of knives. Your thoughts on the knife style or styles that you like and what it is about those types of knives that you like so much.

The style that I first liked was the tactical folder. The aggressive looks, size and feel of these knives had me coveting mant of these knives. I still like tactical folders, but tend to find that I like them with more upscale handle materials and bolsters to give them a higher quality look and feel.

The second style that I have always liked is the Japanese knives. When these knives are done right they have a shape that I find to be as pleasing as any knife out there. When a maker can put a nice temper line on his knives I think that adds a lot to the looks. In my opinion Japanese style knives are a true art form.

Recently I have started to find that my sreciation of gents knives has increased to the point were the next knife that I get will be one of the beautiful little knives. I think that knifemaker in this style seem to use the most beautiful materials to make their knives(other than the art knife makers). They also can be carried in the pocket and do not seem to bother the sheeple. In fact most none knife people tend to like gents knives quite a lot.

I have started this topic more to get your ideas on what knives you like. At a later date, as Gus has stated, we will get into specific types of knives. Hopefully we can get the input of as many makers as possible, because that will make this a far more interesting topic.

Keith.
