I have been looking at the tops bob, but is it worth it? Or should I get an esee instead? I really like the tops bobviously but don't know if it's worth it.

Specificity when asking a question of this sort is rather beneficial. Dependent upon intended use a knife may or may not be suitable at all. what do you intend to use it for?

From my experience it's hard to compare TOPS to ESEE in just about any category. Go with an ESEE......

The B.O.B. is a well reviewed and discussed knife. It may be TOPS' best knife. I would buy one without hesitation.

I think both companies make a good product. ESEE, may have better customer service, but I don't think you can wrong if you like this knife. I have one, and have several ESEE knives and I can not say one in any better than the other, just different. I personally like the handle shape and feel of the BOB. Mine has worked great for me so far.

Two years ago I would have agreed with you, because every Tops knife I'd tried was ground like a hatchet with ridiculously steep sabre grinds so they were terrible cutters. Some of Tops newer knives have useable edges, including the BOB, Dragonfly, and their machetes. I've not tried any others, but can vouch that those knives' blades were very well thought out. Even with better grinds, I'd stay away from any Tops knife that comes with a kydex sheath, their mounting "solution" is aweful, spring steel clips that shred clothing. The only Tops sheaths I like are the flap-over nylon style like the Dragonfly, or the lined nylon machete sheaths.

That said, if you get an ESEE you're guaranteed to have a well thought out knife that will cut very well and be backed up by one of the best warrantees out there. After owning just about every model, I prefer the LaserStrike. Ignore the stupid name, it's a brilliant bushcraft knife that comes with a great kydex sheath.
