My son and I are going to a weekend at a large ranch of a very pro-Veteran ie., not-poor family:D. They are hosting a Veterans camping event of frends and wounded warriors with many outdoor activites. I hope to get a workout for my new TOPS/BUCK CSAR-T Fixed Knife:thumbup: (420HC and 4" blade) and my bigger Ontario Ranger Series RD9 Ready Detachment Knife made of 5160 steel (9.5" Blade 1/4" thick).

The Buck is not large, but should be great at starting fires with flint/magnesum and also Swedish firesteel. I think it will be an excellent camp knife.

I'm not sure how 420HC will do with a firesteel? I've read that some stainless won't throw a spark well but since the HC in 420HC stands for "high carbon" it might be fine. Perhaps someone with actual experience can chime in?

I have personally never had a problem throwing sparks with my buck knives. I use a Swedish scout fire steel

I mostly use Swedish FireSteel 2.0® Army that have 12,000 strikes:thumbup:

•Durable—lasts approximately 12,000 strikes.
•Improved stainless steel striker and ergonomic handles.
•Built-in emergency whistle.
•Produces a 3,000°C (5,400°F) spark and works when wet.
•Compact and lightweight.
•Lights campfires, stoves, gas-barbecues, etc.
•Bright spark—can be used as emergency signal.
•Compatible with Leave No Trace ethics.
•Weight: 1.8 oz. (50 g)

I have the folder version of this knife and really like it. Its a tank. Anxious to hear how the fixed version performs. I have been considering buying one.

How is being pro-Vet synonymous with being bereft of poverty?

My humor only of a rich businessman who has been very generous to Veterans and their families here. BTW, not all Vets are poor. I know many Veterans quite well off. Not the super rich, but in the top 10% of American net worth levels.

Ah, okay. I was thinking of the Vets who come home to ruined marriages and foreclosed homes and live off the Legion.

I LOVE mine & can't say enough good things about it. Made in America. Full width extended tang, scalpel sharp. Give us a sit rep when you get back as to it's performance.
