Last night the "brown truck" delivered my Bush Ranger from TOPS knives. I have to say that this knife fits me as if the Fullers had my hand in Idaho to build the knife to. The blade is 52100 instead of 1095 and one of most enjoyable discoveries was the sheath. The sheath has a spring clip that rotates to where ever you want it. No more getting jabbed in the ribs everytime I get into the car or sit down in a chair.
The Fullers at TOPS are outstanding to do business with and I ordered another knife from them this morning....you see, they put a catalog in the box too! I ordered the "Pasayten" which is a knife designed by Steven Dick, the editor of Tactical Knives Magazine(this is my favorite mag.). The blade on this one is 154CM instead of 1095 and is hardened to 59-60 Rc. I can't wait to get it then I will post pictures of my TOPS for all to see.
Think I will sell more Randalls so I can buy a couple more TOPS Knives.

Try'em, you'll love'em....great knives, great people......Ah hell, I can't wait for the new one so here is a picture of my Bush Ranger.

I like that ranger. I had no idea they were working with steels other than 1095 and 154cm. Good post, good info.

I think you'll like your Pasayten. I like mine but haven't used it much. Got it super cheap off ebay like a year ago. Almost forgot I had it. Now that you reminded me about it I'll have to go chop some potato's and tree branches with it. It's that versatile. :)

Physics,
Hey, thanks for the picture. Very well done. The picture that I got on the TOPS web page showed that the blade did not have serrations. I hope that is the way it's going to be since I am overwelmed with knives that have serrations and am hoping this one will have a plain edge. Did yours come with that very very cool rotating spring clip like I got on my Bush Ranger? That sheath and clip are just awsome for comfort no matter where I am wearing it.

Thanks again,
Ciao

I won this off ebay for $50  so I had to take the serrated version. I would definitely prefer the blade without them though. I'd imagine yours will be without them if that's what you asked for.

My Pasayaten did come with the spring clip. It makes positioning the knife on your belt easy and comfortable. I need to look around and see if I can find these clips elsewhere for other sheaths I own. :)

I'm glad to have found this post. The only TOPS I've handled in person was a Tracker and, while impressive in it's own right, it was just not my thing. Since then, I've been tempted by an Anaconda and a Steel Eagle but both seemed a bit awkward relative to what I've been using up until now (Busse, SRKW, Becker, BM, BRKT)

But I've got to say that both of the pics you've posted are making me think twice about some of the smaller EDC TOPS designs. I'll check it out.

(The title of this thread sounds like a porno though! ;) )

PHysics,
If you do find another source of the rotating spring clips PLEASE let me know too as I have been looking for some time. The closest I have come so far is a Tek-Lok with only 1 screw holding it in place but the one screw tends to come undone after swivaling a couple of times.

You know, I haven't paid a whole lot of attention to the TOPS knives since I thought they only made knives from 1095 steel. NOW, after dealing with them and receiving such great service I am inclined to sell another Randall knife just to be able to buy from TOPS again.

Regards & ciao

I have to admit I really like those two Tops models.

What are the Bush Rangers and Pasaytens running now cost wise?

Thanks for the great pics.

I got a bush Ranger also! Its a sweet ass knife! I also got the bird and trout knife from TOPS also. Two really great knives!

Take care.

I too owned a TOPS tracker and was umipressed. However, I recently traded for a TOPS Dawn Warrior and love it. This really made me rethink some of their smaller models.
It really is a shame though, TOPS seems to have some of the very best quality in the industry and despit dozens and dozens of models they have only a few decent designs.

Orion,

Yeah, but it's not a Greco IT'S A TOPS and it''s a great knife especially with 52100 steel and that heavenly sent rotating spring clip!
