I haven't seen many reviews online for either of these products. I recommend both of them and really anything from TOPS. Check them out for yourselves.

I had one of those drafting pencils for years. I used to put a 1"-2" piece of pencil lead in front of the metal and use a broken drill bit for the point.

Ditto. I've also carried around one of those generic "clear" hexagonal plastic pens with a sewing needle inside - filled with epoxy.
Not entirely legal is my suspicion, but very difficult to notice, could have been used as a metal marking pen as well.
