TOPS CQT folders, design flaw?

I'm looking at my TOPS CQT 747, and a 711, and I cannot see what stops the blade from bottoming out, and therefore blunting the edge.

If this is true, is this not a serious design flaw?

I tried emailing TOPS about this, but have not heard back, and I guess I will try calling them on Monday, but in the meantime, does anyone have any info on this?

Mikemck,

There is something to the angle of the base of the blade that keeps it from bottoming out -- I've had mine for quite awhile and never had any edge degradation whatsoever. I was actually wondering about it, too, when I first got it. But all I can say is, it has never bottomed out. So, I don't think there is any design flaw -- the flaw is us: that we just can't figure how he did it!!! LOL!

Enjoy!

Brian.

Brian,

That's reassuring! I just felt sure the blade must be bottoming out, and it was bumming me out thinking about it. I am very impressed with the CQT folders, but it seems there's always some kind of catch...some little something that keeps a knife from being just what I'm looking for.
With the CQT, it was the thought that the blade was bottoming out, although honestly, I did not find any edge degradation, so I had no actual evidence to point to this "fly in the ointment"..

I'm looking forward to getting mine in the near future. Talked with Pat over at s4supply, he knows the folders well and had some good information for me. I'm planning on ordering one with the optional serrations. Looks like it will be a great folder!
