TOPS for all around outdoor knife?

Been looking for a good, LARGE, general outdoor knife. One that could be used for about anything, probably more so for chopping trails, firewood, and ect. One that can take a hit, pry if needed, and large and heavy enough to chop branches with ease. It must be of good quality but priced under $200.00. I have been looking hard at the T.O.P.S. "Anaconda" series and wanted your opinions on this and/or suggestions for others to consider. Thanks in advance, Dave

Tops makes one of the strongest blades out there. I could name a few others but you mentioned Tops. You would not go wrong with one of there knives at all!

Thanks for your reply. Is there anything else in the same price range that I should consider? I'm in no hurry. Maybe I should post in the wanted section and try to find slightly used. As I said this is going to be a user. Thanks, Dave
 
If you want a big, heavy knife, it's hard to go wrong with a good khukuri.

I have a 15" Himalayan Imports Ang Khola (my smallest!) that is my regular all-around knife for the fireplace. It weighs about two pounds and has been good for chopping logs, prying, splitting kindling, etc., and comes with a burnisher and small utility knife which can be used for sparking ferrocerium.

Check out the Himalayan Imports forum here on bladeforums, if you catch Uncle Bill's Deal of the Day you can get a good one for under $100.
 
If you want to save a few bucks, you might consider the Becker line from Camillus. I'm partial to the Magnum Camp myself.

I have had the chance to handle a bunch of larger knives, and for that money, you could have pretty much anything you want!

I can only make rek'mndations based on what I have played with, so here it goes...

RTAK by Livesay-big, but nice, rough chopper

Busse-NICE!!! NICE!!! NICE!!!

BK&T: AWESOME...too heavy though

Cold Steel: Worth the cash...BUY TWO!

TOPS: TOUGH WITH CAPITAL "T"

Greco: Tough, thick, heavy, NICE!!

I would go with the Busse! Bang for the Buck, Stand up company, and great steel!

Lots of good suggestions here, but don't forget about Allen Blade. He could make you a true custom blade out of a premium steel like 5160 or 52100 for about the same amount of dough (and boy do they look nice

The Busses are really outstanding in this role as well, but you will have to save up a few more bucks.

Busse Basics can be had for near that dollar. And Busse Combat are the cat's meouw. INFI and mINFI are, but most accounts, with few peers.

Cold Steel has offerings that could fit the bill. Carbon V is well thought of.

Becker Knife and Tool offers tools with a little more refinement. 0170-06C is well thought of.

Marbles offers a more traditional knife. 5160 is tough, and 52100 has a very loyal following.

Fallkniven get good reviews. VG-10 is a refined choice.

I would look at those brands, and look at their models based on your needs and your preferences, then ask about specific knives. Or even better, search for threads about those knives.
