I bought a TOPS Firestrike 45 about 5 months ago after reading all the hype and looking over the website. The knife comes and I thought it was ok, but not quite what the pictures portrayed. Fast forward to last week. In a moment of weakness I purchased a Dakota Drifter for a really rock bottom price...a deal I could not refuse. What a piece of shit! The blade has a bend to the right and the grinds are 4th rate drunk monkey quality. I contacted the seller I'll see what transpires. Bottom line STAY AWAY FROM TOPS CRAP

Did you buy a used one? If so, then blaming the manufacturer isn't fair. Our experience with TOPS knives is super. Very low return rate. Happy customer base. Sorry you had problems. If the knife was new then you need to let somebody fix the problem for you.

....but not quite what the pictures portrayed.

Did the knife received not look like the picture of it? What exactly did you have in mind in terms of a portrayal by the picture? This is a very strange critique. How about telling us how the knife performed?

As indicated above, regarding the knife with a defect. Perhaps you can tell us about the conditions of the sale. 'Bought at a rock bottom price' usually sends up warning signals. Perhaps sticking with reputable dealers - like Knife Outlet.... or respected BF forum members is a better approach.

The Dakota Drifter was sold by a dealer as new. As I stated, the blade is bent into a curve. Is quality control that poor at TOPS ? All 8 of my RAT knives arrived razor sharp and unscathed, 3 of which were also at super rock bottom prices. The Firestrike had a poorly ground dull edge which sharpened nicely. The Drifter should never have left the factory with a bent blade

a RC razor sharp...not sure of that. All the Rat Cutlery knives i have seen were sharp but not enough to shave.

You should contact TOPS. They have a warranty and will take of it.

Curious what happened here...

I just received a Drifter as well, and the knife has a definite curve to it when viewed from above.

If you put a straightedge alongside the handle, I would say that the knife curves about 1/2"+ away from the centerline, at the tip.

I have sent mine back to Tops...

All of mine have been hair-shaving sharp from the factory, as have all examples I've seen thus far. Just my experience. :)

But back on topic, that is indeed a very strange occurrence. The only problem I've ever had with TOPS was their cheesy marketing and their crowbar-like designs (though they're fixing that!). Never once seen a TOPS piece I'd call low quality, but every company has ones that fall through the cracks.

Agreed, I have several other knives from TOPs with no issues - so this is definitely not a slam towards the company or their products.

However, that does not excuse the fact that my Dakota Drifter looks like a boomerang. :p

Personally, I'd recommend getting in touch with their CS department. ;)
