Tops Knives a good sit in for a Strider?

Tops is a decent knife co.

I believe they use 1050 carbon steel which is good stuff

Some goofy designs IMHO but good prouduction knives

You can usually find them on ebay for cheaper than there web site
 
WEAK comparison in my opinion. I personally would not bother pitting 1095 against s30v, and I've certainly owned plenty of blades made of both. I think tops BADLY overcharges for what you're getting. You can get a fine KaBar made from the same steel that will do most all jobs just as well for WAY less. I also do NOT like their customer service, but will not let that get in the way of my judgement on their product. Personally I wouldn't even compare them to Strider as I don't feel they're in the same class, and they certainly won't back their product the same way. I don't think they're necessarily a bad product, but if you go out to buy one, make sure you bring some lube so it doesn't hurt as much...
 
Strider knives are known (by those that like them, myself included) for their tough knives and excellent warranty. Considering price, comparable specs to the HT, warranty and toughness, I think a much better knife to look at is the Swamp Rat HRLM:

I'm really into the serrations on the HT & the tanto point. I like hard lines.

Hmm. So the 1050 carbon steel that Tops uses doesnt even compare to the Strider s30v?

I was wondering why you were comparing it to a tanto TOPS knife. You're probably referring to a DB-L maybe(?):

The TOPS knife should work just fine really. But if you're looking for uber-toughness, Swam Rat Knife Works or Scrap Yard Knives are the companies you want to look at with what you're looking to spend. Unfortunately, neither of them have tanto knives as far as I know.
 
I have the shorter DB, it's a nice sharpened pry bar that holds a killer edge.
You just cant beat the "If you Brake it Send it in Warranty"
 
actually Striders overpriced , TOPS using 1095 steel , 1/4 thick just like strider , properly heat threaded and it holds the edge just fine .
fit and finish better on Tops , I had both striders and tops ,
just dont buy directly from tops , you can find them on the net with nice discount .
 
Strider is waaaaaaay over priced. Look up knife test on youtube. The Cold Steel GI tanto ($20) performs better than the Strider BT ($400).

Thats because all things considered, a 1075 blade (spring steel!) will always be tougher than s30v. The Strider would have better edge retention, but with the 25+ deg edge per side, what good does that do?

I actually bought that knife a year ago And loved the quality and feel of it but traded it because I bought the spear point instead of the tanto HT that I really wanted.

So now that I was interested in getting another SHTF knife, I am leaning toward the tanto HT because I love the true serrations on the back spine. You don't see many knives with the tanto tip and heavy serrations likethe HT.

I also really like the size of the HT too.

I just hate the price.

These Tops seemed like a close cousin of the same design I'm looking for, but it still looks like strider steel is superior.
 
Superior in edge retention not toughness, though I highly doubt you could ever break either.

Take the swamp rat suggestion, best blades you will find in that price range with a steel that besides being my favorite will spank 1095 and most likely S30V too.
