I've been loking at a couple of Tops fixed blade knives. I like their small size and the way they look. I am looking for feedback about Tops. Are they good blades? How is the edge retention and the durability of their coating?

Thanks.

A buddy has a couple. I got to handle them for a few minutes and they seem pretty decent. He really likes them. This is really some second hand feedback so perhaps someone else could comment more intelligently on the matter than I can.

TOPS are a quality knife company that makes some very nice knives. They use a top quality HT on their steel (RAT uses the same person) and is some of the best 1095 I have ever used. Marketing is a little on the wild side but so are a lot of other companies.

Small size? Have you considered the Armageddon or the Steel Eagle? Actually they have an almost mind-numbing assortment of designs from tiny to huge. Great blades.

They're very high quality. I've been EDCing my TOPS Shango fixed blade, and it's been stellar.

Tops are very good,High quality, tough tool steel, and good heat treat, just remember to use some oil on em,they will last forever.

I have the Tops Tom Brown Scout and it's duller than a coat hanger. The blade is so thick I can't get any kind of useful edge on it. I think they are over priced and over hyped for what you get.

That's a problem of the design, not the execution. They've been putting out a lot of stuff with thinner grinds lately. You might want to give them a look. Definitely not a fan of the Tom Brown models, myself!

I've owned some of the folders and should never have sold the frame lock folder I owned from them. Excellent quality of build in a clip point. keepem sharp

i love my mochassin ranger and as far as quality tops is excellent however mine havent come super sharp so be prepared to run a stone on them

Great people, they have their share of crazy designs, but I haven't had good experiences with good & consistent grinds on their knives. They will replace knives if you complain, but I wonder why they let them get past QC in the first place.
