Was looking around e-bay for neck knives (thanks to this site). And noticed tops had a bunch of interesting one, especially interested in the cheetah. Just wondering what the general opinion is on Tops Knives, good deal for the money? How is their fit and finish? Ergonomics? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Can't comment on the neck knives but there folders are A-OK. Especially the frame lock series. Outstanding quality and value. Also the put in a pretty neat little over travel stop on the pocket clip for the frame lock itself so you can't spring it if you close it under to much force. I have found there knives to be high quality knives bottom line. keepem sharp

TOP'S makes a good blade and the 1095 they use in there fixed blades has about the best heat treat you could hope for. The folders are nice also, smooth opening like a benchmade, good lock-up and nice eurgo's.

Excellent knives from a great company.

I've been eyeing the Chico myself... one of these days...

I don;t own any but I've handled the Cochise(?), the TB Tracker, the Rhino, a Wolf Pup, and one or two others that I can;t think of the names right now. I never handled one of their folders.

They feel and appear to be very well-made. The only reservation I have about the TOPS knives is that, generally speaking, they use a relatively thick blade steel and their primary grind starts very low on the blade, making for a relatively shallow (obtuse) secondary grind (bevel or cutting edge). Bear in mind I haven't cut with any of the ones I handled. Aside from that one reservation, I like them and they have some very cool designs.

Very strong, excellent duty knives. If you're looking for a great user, they're as good as any. I personally don't own any anymore, as I find them a bit "clunky" for my tastes. I like blades that are a bit more refined and quicker in the hand. Every now and then they get closer to what I like, but overall they're combat/field grade blades, and are very well suited for this purpose. Other than the price, not much different from a Busse.

Also just a good company as a whole, that seems to be run by some quality fellas.

1095 is excellent. I have 3 blades in 1095 and they're superb when it comes to sharpening. The steel is relatively "soft" compared to the other two. Be careful with that statement though, note the word relatively. It sharpens easily to a very fine edge. It is high-carbon and will rust readily if not kept clean after use.

S30V and 154CM (my absolute favorite stainless) are "harder" steels and take a little more to sharpen, especially the S30V. They're also more expensive, again, especially the S30V.

1095 seems proven for larger field knives because of its toughness. It can handle chopping and batoning without chipping. It works just as well on smaller blades. I like it. TOPS uses it for a reason it's an all-around great steel for their designs.

Can anyone with a Tops Thunder Hawke tanto or spear point post pictures of this knife ? Rare pics would be sweet too such as; lockup, spine/handle... High-res pics are hard to comeby of this knife :grumpy:
