Hey all, I'm from htx and am new to the forum. I was thinking about ordering something from Tops Knives and was wondering if anyone knew whether or not they're any good? Thanks!

Yep, they are good to go. Don't seem to be too popular here. A little over the top(hee hee) with logo's and names and some funky designs. Well made outta good steel tho.

Either you like their designs or you don't. Tons to pick from though. The quality and workmanship is first class. As for marketing, have any of those criticizing them ever had to sell a product to the general product?

They have some designs that I really like, and I'm sure that the materials and workmanship are on par for the price point(s), but I'm one of many people who wish every blade didn't read like a billboard. Also, I am not a fan of micarta for a user knife, but that seems to be their standard grip material, at least on the models that interest me the most.

Still thinking about picking up an Air Wolfe, although of course it has now been discontinued as I understand it.

Very well made of good steel with a good heat treatment. They don't get much respect as a whole because they do a lot of seriously wacky stuff...like Klingon weapon type of stuff...completely unpractical stuff. They also make a bushcraft knife that's just about as good as anybody makes. Wacky or practical, it's all well made and a bit expensive although not really overpriced.

Good stuff from good people!

Whatever TOPS knife you choose, you won't be disappointed.

Can't complain about the Fieldcraft or the Firestike 45, both are users and have been extremely punished. F/F are top notch.

The Billboards that they laser etch into the Blade is very annoying, the Fieldcraft practicaly has a whole book written upon it.

They should offer a sterile option.

I have been very happy with the Mil-Spie 3 that I bought a few years back. Especially after I made some full size micarta scales for it.

My first and only Tops is the Dragonfly and I'm very happy with it. Quality seems to be up there with ESEE.
On the uncoated blades the billboard logos fade and rub right off with a scrubby pad after a few cleanings.

Air Wolfe??? Jezuss. I'm sure it's a great knife tho:rolleyes: Really.

That's what I'm talking about right there. Why, or what reason, would you name a knife "Air(friggin)Wolf? I think I know the answer.

But they are good knives....Really.

Nothing you haven't already heard, good steel, come sharp, very tough, etc. I have the Tops B.O.B and it is awesome. I would definitely reccomend tops!

I have a cute little "FERRET" and a BAJA 3.0 (comes with great leather sheath) and I love them both. Don't let the fact that TOPS is not the flavor of the month on the forums stop you. They are seriously good. The quality is every bit as good as ESEE (got three of them, too.)

I've got a BOB and a Dragonfly and I love 'em. 'Got a second BOB on the way for the truck.....Their handles are vastly superior to those found on Esee Models 3,4 and 6 IMHO. (I haven't tried the others except the Izula II which is a perfect little knife). I've found that many of the TOPS knives were too thick for my tastes, and I did not care for the edge geometry on some of their models, but I truly love the BOB and the Dragonfly.

+10 to what everyone else has stated. I'm a little put off by the "Stealth Ninja Death Dealer" names that they use, BUT, guess it works, people know the brand. I have two of their knives in and among my fixed blades. They are great knives. Both are pre-production prototypes, so the blades are sterile. Every year at SHOT they sell all their knives off at half price. Sooo, every Friday of SHOT, I'm at the booth buying my knife of the year. The fit and finish is great, the steel is an excellent example of 1095. If you find one you like, go for it. You won't be disappointed.
