Hi everyone I'm new to the forum!!! Does any of you have any experience with TOPS knives...I'm thinking of getting a Sky Marshall, any feedback would be apreciated!!!

Welcome aboard. tops knives dont get much discussion here. But i never have heard complaints aobut them. Good luck.

It' seems a little strange that TOPS knives don't get much discussion here. They have some good designs. But I don't know anyone that owns one.
And welcome to BFC. Perhaps you could buy a few and tell us about them.;)

Hello and Welcome!

I bought a TOPS wolf pup about 2 weeks ago. This is a nice knife! Good steel, comfy handle, and although not shaving sharp, it push cut paper easy enough with no drag on the blade.

Came with a top notch kydex sheath with belt clip.

This is my first TOPS knife but will not be my last.

They are discussed commonly, or used to be on Ron Hood's forum.

I have ordered several TOPS blades over the past few years and have been very happy with them. Fans of 1095 (and I am one) will find a lot to choose from TOPS. I've had my eye on a Sierra Scout (or maybe a Cougar Claw) for awhile now myself... Customer service has always been outstanding.

condahaw,

Have you put them to work, camping, backpacking, hunting, etc, if so how do they do?

Thanks

i've got a tops street scalpel that i really like. the thickness of the stock makes it suitable for a knive, crowbar, or jack handle. takes a good edge and seems to hold it well. overall i really like it. your mileage may vary, ahgar

Tops knives, which are 100% made in the USA have excellent fit and finish.
I like them, in part, because of the very wide selection of shapes and sizes.

So tell me about your TOPS knives. I am looking for a hard use/back pack/survival knife to run with my BK-9.

Thanks

Ditto to this. I have my eye on the Blue Otter model next.

I've got my eye on some TOPS knives. I want to get at least one of these: Bird & Trout, Bush Ranger, Cochise, Walk-About, Check-Mate, and Ferret. I noticed on many sites TOPS knives aren't marked down very much if at all. Is it common to have to pay full MSRP for some models? I don't have the money for one now but I hope to get some in the future.

The knives look really nice, but I just can't get past some of their advertising. Not as bad as Dark Ops for sure, but I really don't care how good a knife is at kicking terrorist ass.

But, as has been mentioned, they use a lot of 1095 and I'm a big fan.

Most of the ones I like are in the outdoor line. I haven't really seen any of their advertising but with some of the model names I can see how they could hype the operator angle.

Maybe, but I've heard from the TOPS reps they sell to a LOT of military guys and gals......
I just checked out their website too. Redesigned, MUCH better, and lots of new models.

I have a Bush Ranger (52100 steel) and a Pasayten (154cm steel) and a Firestrike (1095 steel). They all seem to be well made and the fit and finish is quite good.
Tops Knives probably has one of the largest selections of knife shapes and sizes then most other makers, so there is bound to be something there that will suit your fancy.

Ciao

Dragon_Man,

The TOPS fixed blades I shortly had were very well made and comfortable in my hand. Stout blades with nice micarta scales. I had a Mohawk Hunter, an Overlander and a Jeff Randall Laser Strike that was produced by TOPS. All three very well done I thought but given away or sold before extensive use thus I cannot comment in detail on their utility.

The Laser Strike was especially interesting because it was tempered/heat treated such that the upper part of the tang which extended somewhat from the scales would produce a spark when suitably struck with flint, jasper, etc., the blade being 1095. It came with a HD firesteel, and a length of OD paracord wrapped around a well done kydex sheath. I wish they would re-produce this blade or something similiar. Probably a real pain to do the heat treat such that the desired qualities are attained where you want 'em on the blade/tang though...

In any case like I said before, I've got my eye on a couple of TOPS blades. One of these days...

Treg,

I have a Nightchaser in 1095 that I have carried a fair bit in the last 3 1/2 years. Fit and finish is good, they are not beauty queens for sure, the materials are first rate and for a narrow handle it is comfortable.

I am very happy with my TOPS, it goes on most of my international travels in South America.

Steve
