I am in Afghanistan right now and I need a small hatchet. I want the tops mini axe but have a few questions that I can not find answers to.

1. Is the spring clip that attaches to your belt removable?

2. If it is can you use tek locks instead?

3. If they are not removeable, do they make left and right handed sheaths?

Thanks for your replies.

check out TOPS site if ur allowed, it should say it somewhere in their paragraphs of description, as far as i know the spring clips are not removeable, you can always contact a kydex sheath maker to form one to your preference

here's a review of it. the questions you asked may be answered in here, i haven't read it through.
hope it helps!

I owned a Max the Mini Axe for about a month. Pro: excellent fit and finish, small but usable size. Con: If you have medium/large or bigger hands the handle curvature was excessive. It cramped my fingers together too much. Was pretty uncomfortable to use. My 2 cents.

PS: I have the TOPS Echo Hawk now. When I get around to making a handle for it I know it will be comfortable. Plus, it will do every thing the MMA can do at a less expensive price.

Stormbird, was the spring clip removable? I have searched and the reason that I am asking the questions are because I have been unable to find the answers I am looking for from reviews or from the site. I even emailed the tops site.

I still need to know

1. Is the spring clip removable

2.If it is, can you put a tek lok in its place

If you don't mind marking the clip, it can come off. You will need to remove the circular 'cap' covering the hole where you can access the screw that holds the clip onto the sheath. It would be easiest to pop out the kydex cap from the inside of the clip. Looks like the screw takes a hex wrench to remove.

As for Tek-Lock options, I think it is doable. The holes in the sheath line up quite close to the holes on the Blade Tech clip. There might need to be a little modification to the sheath if you attach the Tek-Lock to the bottom end of the sheath.

Hope this helps.

CQC86, can't give any info on the axe as I have no experience with it. However, I think I speak for many on here when I say God Bless You for what you are doing over there and bring your butt home safely!!!!

CQC86... A pic of the MMA I had, clip removed. I wish I had a scale for you to measure the mounting hole distance.

Stay safe over there.
