Hey folks. Does anyone have a TOPS Moccassin Ranger? Any thoughts on this blade. Does it feel big in the hand? How about other TOPS FB's what are your opinions. Thanks and Take Care.

Hey CKE2,

I don't have a Moccasin Ranger, but I did own an Anaconda9 which is a bit larger. The Anaconda did not feel too big in the hand and I'm small boned and weigh @ 140! I was surprised. The MR, like the A9, is 1/4" thick. The Micarta scales were not overly thick and had smoothly rounded edges. I was just checking their site before logging in here. Thinking of making a purchase soon :) Hope this helps.

I have a Moc Ranger from TOPS and in my view, it's the best feeling and best moving knife in their line. I have handled at one time or another, nearly all their models.

Thanks guys! I have been eyeing the MR for along time and it seems to be a good knife. I know 1095 will not keep up with all the new steels out there but how do you like it. I guess it is quite easy to touch up in the field.

Heck, I consider the use of 1095 to be a bonus. I kinda view it as a good honest steel that ya' know you can rely on! may not be the sleekest, best edge holding stuff out there, but it it tough as nails, and has a much more established track record than alot of the newer stainless stuff it's bound to be compared to. If you like the MR and you can swing the price, I definitely wouldn't let the choice of steels slow ya' down. (I think there's alot to be said for the cryogenic treatment also)

Heh, I posted this same question a couple of weeks ago and it sank like a stone. I'm glad you brought it up again and got some replies. I just can't seem to get the Moccasin Ranger off my mind... I think I see one in Santa's bag this year.
