Hey!
I am on a few forums, but the layout of this one is new to me, so if I have this in the wrong place, please let me know!
So! This is the last Tops I will own. I like the knives, but I feel that i dont get what I pay for.
I decided to give Tops one last chance with the msk, or "mini scandi knife" when I purchased this knife, Tops advertised that it had a "true 0 degree scandi grind" whatever that means.
I took it to mean that it had a scandi grind. Well played Tops... well played.
Long story short, I didn't figure out that the msk was not a scandi grind after I had pulled my hair out trying to sharpen it as a scandi grind. My fault, I should have payed more attention.
So i threw the msk in a drawer, until I realized how to sharpen it, and spent a few hours with wet sand paper trying to right the wrongs I had done to the knife, and I began to carry it again. But I decided it was time for a face lift, and so i utilized my plans for a bk9 that i dont have yet on this little tops, figuring I might as well learn on it. And if I customize it, ill look at it in my pocket as a knife I customized myself, instead of another Tops.

I taped off the original paint under neat the scaled, then stripped the rest. I used a solution for 50/50 water vinegar, crushed oranges, and pennies, and boiled it for a while. Then I dropped it to a simmer and put two sticks in the pot, with the msk on top of the sticks(thinking that it would be good to have water circulating under neat the blade)
After I cleaned it up, I put mustard over it for a little a couple minutes to get a little bit more depth and "figure"
I am happy with how it turned out. When I get a change to pick up a bk9, ill do a lighter patina, but I am happy with how my little msk turned out, and now it is mine, and i can keep it razor sharp easily.
I'm glad to be part of the forum!
