Thinking about purchasing a 3" knife. Prices are almost the same except for the desert son which is not by much. My choices are:

TOPS Blue Otter
TOPS Desert Son
RAT RC-3

It will be used as an occasional camping, fishing and hunting knife.
If my finances were good i would love to buy all three of them but times are tough.

thank you

RC-3 for sure its better suited for your needs. I like my tops knives but there more like sharpened pry bars and not so much a skinner.

After reading few posts, I found that new graham is the store to get the rc3.
i'm a little strapped for cash so do any of you have a coupon code :o.

If not i guess few more noodles in the cup for lunch won't hurt me! :D

Thanks guys!

I say RAT Cutlery. Here are some of mine.

i like tops but i'd go with the rat{rc3 or 4}. I've got a rat 3 and really like it alot and from what i've read the rc3 and rc4 are improved.

I'll admit I've had more different RAT models than Tops & none of the newer RCs, but like everyone's written, the Tops are thick & probably better for a larger knife. I'd get a RAT3 because I think it's a better slicer. However, if you can afford it, you might want to check out a RAT3 in D2 &/or an Entrek Badger. The Badger's a little more expensive than a RAT3 in 1095 (I think), but less than a RC3, & it has a larger handle like the RC does. Plus the Entreks use 440C (& their heat treating is excellent). Just a thought.

Good luck on whatever you do get.

As I've said, I personally prefer the Entrek Badger, but I think the sheath set-up on the RAT is the best, except my large hands don't fit. The RC3, while I haven't tried one, I'm sure would be just right.

I agree 100/ If you have big hands the manipulation on bushcraft is hard becouse guard in the handle.I learn the hard way.
