I just got a TOPS Scalpel...seems like a really cool little knife...love the way it feels in the hand, and love the way the blade is made. I don't know much about these knives, other than a buddy of mine has a harpoon and it is pretty nice as well. Anyone have any insights/opinions to these critters?

just popping this back up for a bit...no comments on these knives? I just don't know much about them.

I have 3 TOPS knives including the Scalpel. I picked it up because it looked like a neat knife and I liked the concept (or maybe it was the name... it sounds like a good cutter!). For a blade that small the spine is thick. I spent a bit of time on the Sharpmaker trying to but a finer edge on the blade but with the thick spine and short height it was rough. Overall, I have not used it that much. At that size it is easier to just use a pocket knife.

I also own the Lone Falcone and the Steel Eagle (Hunter's point). Very nice designs (both are keepers, Lone Falcone has seen moderate use). But again, with the Lone Falcone I had to spend a lot of time with the Sharpmaker to make edge cut-worthy!

Hey, I was able to dig up a pic from 2006... (still in Photobucket)

At one point I also owned the Armageddon and the Tracker. I ended up selling/trading them off.

For production blades made of 1095 the price was steep and I preferred the designs of the Lone Falcone (very pointy!) & Steel Eagle (saw teeth are a nice touch & it fits perfectly in a Spec Ops sheath).

I own 3 tops knives the scalpel a hoffman harpoon and the american trailmaster. I have been impressed with the workmanship and fit and finish on all the knives. They are pretty thick but they are also extremely tough.

I have 2 scalpels, and IMHO they're too thick for regular utility knives. Cool design, great prices, nice fit and finish, but not too useful when it comes to EDC.

Guys, just FYI:

TOPS are not production blades like you see from the big companies - they are handcrafted in a shop, not a factory, with personal attention going into every part of the process!

I got one a few months ago and have EDC'd it ever since. One of the best "handy" knives I've ever owned. Thick, yes, but keeps it edge well, and re-sharpens in no time. Planning on buying a couple more.

Thanks for the info folks...it is a nice little knife to be sure. I hope I get to keep it, my best friend has been dying for one of them and is ready to trade the farm for it...lol...I may not be able to resist.

had one myself and couldnt get a good edge on it so it ended up as a mia to my collection.Wouldnt buy one again for something as thick as a lawnmower blade:barf:

I have one, and I like it a lot; good for skinning out squirrel legs. Yummm!
