Hey all, this is my first post so bare with me. I've been looking into buying the TOPS steel eagle 107E and as I'm drooling over this knife I can't help but but wonder how i'll carry it. I live in a very urban environment(city) but I can and do carry my knives with me most of the time. My current carry is the Gerber Warrant and a safekeeper ii but i'd rather have a single big fixed blade to do all the tasks that those two do(self defense and utility). In colorado it's legal to open carry pretty much anything openly. I realize that most people may tell that it's not recommended to carry around such a large knife but what can I say, I like big knives. So going back to my question could anyone recommend a good way to carry this knife comfortably. The knife has a 7" blade and is 13" overall, and as for me, I'm short(5'5") and fat (Not disgustingly so though). Any input would be welcome.

I have the 107D, it's a pretty big knife. So much so that if it were on your belt and you fell it may do some rib damage. The sheath is sturdy, not the best sheath, but adequate. But it is a pretty large knife. The only way I could see carrying it is like Book Of Eli in a Crocodile Dundee type of harness. I usually Molle strap mine to my backpack.

Look into a custom Baldric rig. If you have one made, you can talk with the maker & have it made with multiple carry options. One sheath-but with a few changes you can belt carry, drop leg carry or blaldric rig carry.

My experience has been: when wanting to carry a large knife, all day, hunting/working/getting into-out of vehicles, on-off atvs, standing, squating & twisting you need: a drop leg swivel & an adjustable elastic leg strap. That way you can do all of the above & not even know its there because it moves with you & not against you. This is one of my setups----but i would NOT wear this around town or in a public venue. This is NOT a baldric rig, but a custom drop leg w/swivel & adjustable elastic leg strap. Knives are a BK9 & Gerber Metolius.

Thanks for the help guys. I suppose i forgot to mention that i will be getting a kydex sheath for this knife and was primarily thinking of carrying it horizontally at about the five o'clock position strong side(as this is how i usually carry my warrant) but i was thinking that due to the knife's size it would both uncomfortable and very frightening to the sheeple(lol love that term)

Well....a 7 inch bladed fixed blade for urban utility carry is extreme overkill, in my book, but to each his own, I suppose.

Small of the back horizontal carry (especially with a blade that large) really doesn't allow for quick access, which limits it's SD potential, and it can be uncomfortable if not outright dangerous if one falls on their back. Also, there's the difficulty of resheathing a knife in that location. But I suppose its a good spot to conceal your knife from those pesky sheeple.

So...you getting the sawback and/or tanto version? You gonna keep that Safekeeper on you also?

marcinek, i plan on getting the plain 107 (hunters point no saw and plain edge) and as for me keeping the safekeeper on me i haven't decided yet i have found that it's surprising how utilitarian the double edge can be i've even used it to help prepare a meal lol i usually carry that one about 9 30 weak side. as for the carry of the steel eagle i agree about sob carry and it's risks especially with that large of a knife i do like the idea of shoulder harness but not so much the idea of looking like a mall ninja and it being winter here and cold as Hell semi concealing a knife that size would be a non issue with a decent coat. my definition of semi concealment is hiding most of the knife while leaving a portion of the handle exposed(perfectly legal)
