A few months ago I bought a knife that is out of character for me, a Tahoma.

I have never had such a large blade, and I feel a little like a kid playing Rambo with it, but I have to admit I like it and use it more than I thought I would.

Anyway, I am trying to find a sheath for it. The one it comes with is somewhere between awful and terrible. Not having had, carried or used a knife like this before, I need help.

Leather or kydex?
Dangler style or not?
Different style of carry all together?
A possibles pouch on it or not?
A fire steel loop or not?

I am wide open to suggestions.

Who uses a knife this size and what is your preferred sheath? Makers? Custom or is there an off the rack solution?

Thanks for the help.

I am wide open to suggestions. I am anything but tactical. This is a playing in the woods knife.

Leatherman, would you have suggestions as to styles, why and how please?

I am just starting to look.

Not familiar with the knife in question, let me go do some research and I'll get to you.

Weather kydex or leather, you have some of the best of the best to choose from here. Your in a good place.

When your ready look at the list in the stickies, and do a search of the craftsman members here (paying members) and then the fun starts as you try to narrow it down. :D

OK, just looked it up and the wife is gonna hate me! I like it!!

I assume at 14" OAL that the blade is around 7" or a little more.

I favor low ride for that application. Honestly too short for a dangler type sheath. But, I have knives of that size in high ride as well and they carry very comfortably. My Fehrman First Strike (same basic size) is in a high ride right along side my Swamp Rat Chopwieler.

This knife I'd go either way. If I wanted it out of the way and possible knife shy people I'd go high ride. If it doesn't matter, then go for a lower ride.

This said, the kydex group can fill both those and more. I've even seen a dangler type carry with kydex. Leather you good to go as well.

I'd suggest a nice wilderness style belt as well. Heavy knives tend to break down a light belt pretty quickly. I've seen nylon wilderness belts as well as leather and they are cheap insurance against breakdown. I found the difference a few years ago when I got one and noticed the difference in how the knife carried, its eye opening. :D

I would try and get a Kydex sheath made for it. Google an ESEE Junglas sheath and that will give you an idea of what I am talking about. That way you could add things like pouches or firesteel loops easily. You could use tekloks or Molle locks. You could add or remove a danglerto it and use para cord loops to carry it baldric style with a nylon luggage strap.

Just my .02, good luck that's a nice knife!

Thanks. There is something nice about leather, but in the southeast, wet weather favors kydex.

The versatility of kydex and attaching different attachment systems is really appealing.
