I am looking for a new neck knife and am trying to decide between the TOPS Wolf Pup and the CRKT Dogfish. Does anyone have any thoughts on either of these? Any other suggestions? I really don't want to spend any more than $60 or so. Thanks

By the way, I will be using this knife for hiking and camping as a backup to a 4"-5" blade or SAK.

I've looked the the Ranger LB, but I have rather large hands. Would this be too small, or is it designed well enough that it would still be well balanced as a two-fingered knife?

The two you mention are like chalk and cheese ! I have a Wolfpup and it's small but built like a tank, this is a knife that will last you forever !
The Dogfish is a nice little knife and would be a lot lighter for easy carry !
I would not go as small as the Little Bird , I think that it is too small to be of much use....just my opinion !
Other options if you want stainless are the Benchmade Instigator and the new Buck Mayo Kaala !

Thanks so far fellas. PITDOG, I knew you would chime in on the Wolf Pup. :D

Any other suggestions for a good neck knife?

It's like I said bro, depends what you are wanting really !
If you are wanting Carbon steel then TOPS do a wide range of neckers at affordable prices esp if you order through Newgraham !
Another great Carbon blade is the PSK by Scott Gossman, a bargain at $45 !
If you are wanting stainless then the Buck Kaala I mentioned looks a practical blade and is made of S30V, this is a little more expensive but I think someone said they shopped around and bagged one for $60 !!!
I am hoping that the Scrapyard brings one out soon as that will be a bargain price as well.....they are rumoured to be doing so !!!

Hey Rifon how are you finding it bro ?

Would you say it would be a good back up for Survival use, making feather sticks etc ?
I think Buck kind of promote it as a tactical blade which always puts me off a little, but the blade shape looks ideal for Survival use !

The crkt is about 20 bucks and excellent. I just got a crkt falcon. Man, that is one great knife for the money. It performs like a more expensive knife.

I had a tops and it did not fit well in my hand but that is a subjective opinion.

pitdog, I think it may be better as a "tactical" rather than for survival use because it does have a hollow grind. Also, it's 1/8" steel if I'm not mistaken.

So for survival use I'd look at something different - at one time I would have said the Becker Necker BK11. (That's what I use.)

Today I'd look at the TOPS - which I see you've done already. - Also check out the cord-wrapped Walkabout. http://www.topsknives.com/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=172.

I love the Kaala; it's just that I think it's more of a great fine-edge slicer not really suited to chopping, making kindling, etc.
