My recently procured Small Micarta Sebenza 21 (plain edge S30V, double lug) was opening kind of rough. Additionally the lanyard came uninstalled and unraveled. I used the lanyard pin with some paracord to make a new one.

I printed the instructions off of the CRK website and tore it down. I do have some mechanical experiences, i.e., I've learned from a lot of stupid mistakes, so it was pretty easy. It definitely needed it! It is much smoother now!

Now that I am done, I do have some questions. I used gun solvent to clean the parts, then used gun oil to clean off the solvent. Wiped it dry with as best I could and reassembled using the CRK grease.
1) Did I mess up using the solvent?
2) My washers had machined holes around the edge unlike the pictures I saw. Is this better as a grease reservoir? or is there less wear material?
3) Is the Mnandi similar to do?

Thanks!

Cruddy phone pic - the lanyard looks better in person.

All I ever use to clean the parts is a bowl of water and dawn dish soap. Works awesome. I then take my time drying off each part with regular old paper kitchen towels.

To answer your questions(I'm not a pro)
1. No
2. Yes, the holes act as a reservoir.
3. Yes

I guess the main part is to get any debris in the old grease out of there....and getting fresh grease in there (or oil).

Hoppes is potent stuff. I had it disolve synthetic gun cleaning patches. However, I don't think it will harm your knife any.

Isn't part of the old Hoppes #9's job to dissolve copper ?
Isn't bronze part copper ?
Aren't the washers phosphor bronze ?

I wouldn't use it on mine and like the member above I've found plain old dish soap and a rag to be all my knives have ever needed.
The holes were added to the washers some time back, started on the Umnumzaan if I remember correctly, then to the Seb, and then to the Mnandi.
Yes, the mnandi will be simple and familiar to service if you've already done the Seb.
I'd definitely keep any solvent off of the inlays on your mnandi.
