Trying to be a strongman I ruptured my left distal biceps tendon and need surgery this week. I will be in a cast for 2 weeks and then 9 months of physical therapy!!!!!

I am going to go out of my mind!

Happened last week to a guy in my office. He is not looking forward to almost a year total of rest, recuperation, therapy. All I can do is say good luck and follow your therapist's instructions. They are great. I wish that I'd gone to school for physical therapy. They really help people.

Distal?! Holy hell, how did you do that bro? Usually the proximal is first to go. If you need a good PT near Philly, Im your man lol.

I did that about 10 years ago. They sliced my elbow open to reattach. leaves a great S-shaped scar on the inside and a long one on the outer side. My wife was a couple of houses away when I did mine and heard me screaming and cusin. Good luck with yours! Did mine unloading a box of particle board and observed the outcome of Newton's 1st law of motion, that a locked elbow will not stop a heavy sliding board moving really fast! Take Care, Steven

I just came off PT for a complete separation of the bicep ligiment from the bone. Surgery, then PT for 4 months but I am back to about 80 % One straight 3 inch long incision to the inside of the elbow that can hardly be seen. I don't think you will spend 9 months in therapy. The last few weeks they just had me doing various exersizes with increasing weight and I can do that at home.
I can tell you, the pain and discomfort of the injury didn't approach that of coming out of surgery. I would suggest some good drugs and make sure you stay loaded up the first night at home. They gave me a drug my stomach couldn't tolerate and I was standing in the kitchen in a brace and sling, holding my elbowi, and rocking back and forth most of the night until I could get an alternate prescription.

I agree about the pain after surgery. The pain at occurance was about 10 minutes long, the after surgury pain lasted much longer. Mine was also a complete seperation. They cut open the inside of the elbow to get to the tendon, then the outside to allow them to pull the thing through to anchor it to the bone. Steven

Man, THAT SUCKS! Remember, the harder you work in pt the easier it will be after. Good luck.

Thanks to everyone for all of the feedback! I read that this was rare but apparently not!

snwbrdr202 the surgery was done in Philly! Eagles/Flyers/Phillies hand surgeon! I will send you an email to find out where you are. Glad you are familiar with this type of injury/surgery!

6 of us were trying to carry a hot tub (empty, of course with 3 on each side). The guy on my right slipped and let go. I was in the middle and took on the weight he dropped and I heard POP POP POP!

There are some vids on youtube of guys doing this while deadlifting.

I learned my lesson - BE CAREFUL!!!

My biggest fear is tearing something while I powerlift. Good luck with the healing process, I'd be devastated. I slashed my wrist on a broken blender not long ago and had to take a month off from working out, I started getting depressed.
