I am a very amateur knifemaker and wanted to improve the final edges of my knives as well as take care of the professionally made knives in my collection. I have been searching the forums and watching a lot of YouTube. As part of that search, I found out Tormek has a new angle setting jig called the KS-123. I use a Tormek knock off to set the initial bevel on my home made knives and I have to tell you this jig works really well. I combined it with a Tormek KJ-45 knife centering jig since the one I was using wasn't all that hot. The two items worked really well to put the first edge on a couple of knives I'm working on.
I also took delivery of a Hapstone R2 with a set of Hapstone Starter CBN stones. The R2 is a great system that took the work of the wet wheel with new Tormek jigs and finished the job with excellent results. I was really impressed with the quality of the Hapstone.
There are a lot of great systems out there right now and we are lucky to have so many choices. For me, the system I have where I can put on an initial bevel and then take my time finishing the edge with a guided system is one that I am looking forward to using for many years to come.
