I cannot sharpen with a flat stone worth a flip. I am committed to learn/use a guided system. Have decided to go all in. Looking at the Tormek T8 hand tool bundle. My hardest steel currently is S90V. Have three knives with that steel. Will this Tormek handle S90V or am I looking at the wrong sharpening system?

The T8 will be fine. Read something like "Knife Deburring 6th edition: Science behind the lasting razor edge" by by Vadim Kraichuk to help you decide what abrasive wheels, compounds, and finishing methods might be best for you.

A T8 will sharpen all steels. Contact me with any specific questions. Been using a Tormec since they were introduced decades ago along with several other machines,.

The base SG wheel will sharpen any steel, but it's not ideal for super steels like s90v. You'll sacrifice edge retention because the stone is softer than vanadium carbides. For high vanadium steels, you'd want the black SB wheel, or better yet, go with CBN or diamond.

I’ve been using a wood turners wonders cbn wheels for the tormek on my grizzly tormek knockoff and it has been awesome on high alloy steel.

The stone wheel worked but was slower.

I have the 160 grit CBN wheel from SchliefJunkies and it's awesome. Yesterday I reprofiled an M390 blade from 20° to 15°. With the CBN wheel, I was able to raise a burr on both sides in <5 minutes. That's a minimum 30-minute job on a fixed-angle system, and probably closer to an hour. I have the 400 grit wheel on the way ... as soon as Hanns is back from vacation (Germans are perpetually on vacation). :)

Nice thing about the SchliefJunkies' wheels is that they can be run in water with no rust inhibitor.

Thank you for the responses. You have given me some material for research. Sounds like the Tormek is a go. Thanks again, have a lot to learn!
