Hi guys,

I am about to pull the trigger on one large Sebenza 21, but am torn between the Micarta Scales vs the one of the Wood Inlays.

I love the look of the wood inlays, but prefer the grippiness of the micarta.

For those of you who have one of the wood inlays, do you have any regrets at all about the slickness of it? How much of a difference is there in purchase between the two?

Thanks guys!

With wood inlay, CRK do not offer re polish the handle, they will only polish the raised inlays. With Micarta inlay, they will re sandblast the whole handle and make it new again

What do you plan to use it for? Everything? Casual office carry? If it is everything including harder use I'd go micarta. The wood can probably handle it, but the micarta will hold up more, be a little grippier, and can be reblasted to look new again.

My main issue with using the wood hard is brain block, just having it stuck in my head that the micarta is moreso for hard use. If you don't have that issue I think you'd be fine with wood. I don't find it all that slick, just not as grippy as micarta. Get the one that's calling to you most or you'll end up with both anyway.

That's funny! You're making this harder. lol

Does the polished Sebenza scratch easily?

I have wood and micarta. Micarta IS more of a "I don't care" utilitarian use knife. The wood is my preference however. Its warm in the hand and nice to look at at the same time. Does it bother me that the knife can not be restored to new? Meh, notarially. I like my knives telling a story.

One pretty cool thing about the wood is the character of grain - no two alike. I'd probably vote finding a discontinued wood species from a vendor that shows actual pictures as opposed to stock photo's. That way you can find one that really speaks to you.

I have three micartas and a few wood inlays, a couple mammoth and carbon fiber. All have their places, but for EDC... micarta works for me.

I prefer the micarta inlay over the wood for an EDC, I like the grippiness of the micarta (just feels good in the hand)and it is my favorite Sebenza. If the Micarta wasn't my go to EDC, I am sure I could live just fine with the wood inlay.

I have both, and much prefer the look and feel of the wood inlayed knives. The wood that CRK chooses wear well and have very nice colors and grains usually. The micarta is more rugged and grippy, but the wood is better looking and plenty durable for daily use. I have never had an issue with losing a grip on a knife with either inlay.
Good luck with your search!

Great choice... and to boot if you want to try a wood inlay later down the road the micarta's are easy to sell.

I have a small ebony inlay and a large micarta. I like the wood inlay much more. Wish i would have bought a large wood inlay instead
