Hi guys, haven't posted in awhile, I am looking @ two knives in a similar price range. The Winkler 2 Utility & the Spartan-Harsey Hunter. With that said, I own the Winkler Belt Knife & Spartan Blades Ares, and I have to say I'm not overly impressed with either. I am however wanting to give one of these companies a second chance & have narrowed my decision to one of these two.
1st up is the Winkler Knives 2 Utility Knife. What I like: Size & the fact that the finish on my belt knife is outstanding and the ergos are great. I'm not sure about the steel though, never had experience with 80crv2, anyone here care to chime in? However my belt knife is a pain to put a hair popping edge on and it smells weird (yes I said it, it has a funky odor).
2nd up is the Spartan-Harsey Hunter. I like the fact this blade is hollow ground & I like s35vn steel. The Ares I have has a lackluster finish, and the specops sheath leaves a lot to be desired.

So you see there are pros & cons to both, this knife will be general utility I just wanted a bit of tactical flare. If anyone knows of any other fixed blades in this size & price range please feel free to let me know I'd love some other options. I do like the +/- 5" blade length, hollow ground is a plus but not necessary. Also I'm not a big fan of sharpened pry bars so thickness < 1" is nice.
Thank you sincerely for your time...

That's a close one. No, it's a TOUGH one. I'm a Winkler guy but I guess I can say Harsey Hunter is number one or two on deck.

It may come down to the worker/slicer difference and your preference of the two.

skippz.........

Owning the Winkler II has been great...I'm not concerned about pounding the ground, notching or any fine detail cutting...it simply does all well and a very comfortable carry..........as another choice look at the Attleboro ( hollow ground. 4.5" blade, S35n and .156 thickness

My Belt Knife is in 80crv2 and I like it a lot. It's tough, takes a great edge and sharpens easily enough. I figure the odor you notice is the coating.

My Winkler 2 Belt model must be older as its the A2 steel (I believe)... However, thank you so much for mentioning the Attleboro, it looks like a promising contender. I hadn't heard of this blade before although it somewhat reminds me of the old surefire echo model knife. I really am liking the Attleboro, do you, or anyone you know have any experience with the blade?

I'll throw a couple fallkniven knives out there: NL 5&4, SK 1, PHK, HK 9, TK 1,2,5,6
