Torn grip

After I got my AR 3.25 in June, my cousin wanted one because he liked the ergonomics and it's red-line. I bought him one for his birthday, and he loves it. He's had it for 2 months, but at his work he grazed the grip on a sharp metal corner of a piece of sheet metal (he's apprenticing at a metal fabrication shop). The grip texturing has a tear in it now. Do you think Gerber will cover it or repair it for a fee? We e-mailed them and they haven't got back to us yet.

Gerber is generally regarded as having a good service department, but this does not appear to be a case of a defect in material or workmanship. The grip got cut by a sharp piece of metal, but up until that point it was apparently working just fine.

You can certainly give it a shot, they may decide to cover it. If not I'd just epoxy it back together and go right on using the knife.

Well, I'll hope for the best. I doubt they'd cover it, and I don't blame them, but I can't hurt to ask.

EDITED TO ADD:

I hope not to deter anyone from this knife, it's awesome for $40. It's completely his fault, and he wasn't cutting very smart. Unless you see the setup of that area of his shop, it's hard to understand what happened. But he had it in a tight area he couldn't reach well. He was cutting a cable or rope inside of one of the machines that they had the part tied with and due to constraints had to have his hand holding the knife very low. He applied a very good amount of pressure and when it cut (faster than he expected) he inadvertantly slammed the knife into a piece of metal being fabricated. He's not a knut at all, and he carries in his pocket regardless of anything else in there. The bolster scratching is appauling , but people who don't see the beauty of knives could care less :D
