I have always been torn I love a flawlesss bowie the likes of a Fisk Or Dean or one of the many talented Smiths out there but there has always been an equal love of the roughly finished stuff like Hartsfield ,SHiva Ki and the likes. Just as I can look at a fine hand rubbed finish or a high polish of a traditional Katana I must admit I also like to see the grind lines sometimes. Well Awhile back I ordered Some stuff from John and Ted at MMHW for an Alaske trip this month and I saw a fighter on his web page called a Persian so I ordered one with out the parkerized finish and with natural scales. I asked John to tell Ted I wanted a sash type sheath like on the Bowie he did. Well I got it the other day and after a quick etch job and some paracord to make a static line draw sheath I am quite pleased with it. Thanks John and Ted. So again I do not know why my taste is so varied but sometimes I like um rough. If I can get Mr. Long to do a sheath I will send it when I get home from Alaska with one of my hub cap or doorknob style studs. I know the skull is a bit juvinele but it makes a great thob for the static line.

Well thank you buddy. Speaking of Mr. long here is the MMHW combat Bowie/Moose knife that he just made a hell of a leather sash sheath for along with it's original lash to a pack Kydex sheath.

Bro, I TOTALLY understand what you are saying, as I have the same Dr Jekyll and MR Hyde syndrom...

In the same day, I want to order something immaculate from John White AND a neo-tribal from John Gonzales. And one day I hope to have both! (Not to hijack, but that's why I love Raymond Richard's work so much --- there is a simple elegance in fit and finish, but an unmistakeably vintage feel as well...)

Nice Persian, CONGRATS!!!

i like the first knife, the Persian a bit better... dont know why, but sure do keep looking at it!

Same here. I think it is the handle for me. Persian handle looks designed better for the blade, second handle seems too skinny and flat. How do they feel in hand, Joe?

Both look serious!

HEY! My NeoTribal stuff IS immaculate! It just has a rustic feel! ;)

Nice rig, Joe. Ted makes a great user knife... and his designs are killer. Look at the lines on that Persian. Perfect.

The patina looks nice. Thanks again!

The big bowie feels very camp knife like. remember I have what I believe to be some good fighter bowies to compare Bagwell's An El diablo and some others but I new this would feel the way it does and for my intended use it is just what I wanted. Do not get me wrong it has great balance for a big heavy knife and I am very pleased. the handle on the bowie feels like it would be comfortable to chop with and fills your hand up enough to give thrusting some confidence that without a guard you could still hang on. As for the Persian I really like the way it feels and Matt you are right something about it's lines draw me to it it. is a bad ass little fighter I believe 5 3/4 inch blade. Thanks again to all for the nice comments

sounds like you're inspired, Matt. Can't wait to see your next Persian influenced knife.

I just got these but you are in luck I am heading to Alaska for two weeks of Bush work so I should get a good feel for them. As for workmanship they are tanks of a knife even the persian has weight to it. The grinds are rough but straight and I know the steel he uses is good. I imagine his heat treat after 26 years is good so they should make fantastic user knives. He grinds his actual cutting edge pretty steep but on a big chopper I think this would be fine. I spent some time last night after etching the Persian on both knives and in short time had them more than sharp enough. For the money I think they are excellent user pieces and after I skin a moose with that Persian I will let you know how the edge holds up.

Interested in your post-trip report, Joe. Looks like Paul has made that bowie sheath so it will handle those harsh Alaskan conditions.

No doubt John  Your neo-tribal line is absolutely stunning to me.

The bowie on your website is stuff that dreams are made of... One day I hope to have one similiar (I just need to be in the right place at the right time!)
