I'm torn between these three knives : benchmade subrosa, benchmade rukus and protech godfather need some input.

i understand the rukus has been dropped but quite a few are available. in selecting from these type knives i would opt for the rukus which although is not quite as concealable offers more sturdiness. personally the least amount of involved mechanics favors less possibility for failure. over the years i find the axis opening to be very reliable but even so my fav is the flipper opener. if one has handled most of the quicker openers enough, it's apparent that indexing the knife is the slowest part of retrival. i find getting my finger on the flipper is as fast as getting your finger on a button. I have a Rukus that I carry just about all the time. The thing is bulletproof. Thats what I would choose.

I really liked the Subrosa when I saw it online for the first time. I am not a fan of AO, but the mechanism can supposedly be removed. It did not feel as robust as I would have liked when I handled one at Willey Knives.

I really liked my Rukus, but it seemed like the Axis lock could not withstand the knife opening fast. It would loosen considerably after a good period of opening and closing. Still one of my favorite blades, and while the handle was very grip friendly, it didn't look good.

Never had a Protech, so I can't comment on it. However, buddies that carry and use autos, recommend the Protech brand.

I recently bought a Subrosa, and I love it to bits.

I bought it to replace my Barrage. The Barrage was excellent, but a little hefty for its size. I wanted something more comfortable to be my EDC, and the Subrosa came alive in my hand when I first picked it up.

It has the same wonderful kick as the Barrage when you open it, but its streamlined titanium frame is MUCH lighter, and the slim wedge profile is very comfortable in the hand.

Here are some pics of the Subrosa next to an Endura 4 and a 741 Onslaught, for size comparison.

I haven't owned the other two, so I can't speak for them. I know a few satisfied Rukus owners, though.

Try a local knife store and see if you can get your hands on the real knives. There's nothing better than handling them in person to get a sense of what you'll like the best.
