i just received a used boa yesterday.and while i was taking it apart to give it a good cleaning i noticed it had a lot of lube in the torsion bar area is this common? or do i have a lot more cleaning to do? i was hearing a gritty sound while closing the knife. that was why i decide to take apart this fine knife.

I would not remove any lube from that area unless the blade is not deploying well or if the lube itself has grit in it. Kershaw puts lube in that area for function, not for preservation. If it sounds gritty a good cleaning of the pivot areas and washers followed with a high quality lube (Tuf-glide, Eezox, Miltec, Clp, CorrosionX) may be in order. If it still sounds gritty just keep flicking it and cleaning out any gunk that shows up. I have had a Boa since they first came out. While the one I have does not open quite as quick as some of my other Speed Safes of the same size, it does open fast and lock up perfect every time.

Good luck!
