I'm just getting into taking apart knives to clean, adjust, and modify. Can anyone tell me the most commonly used torx sizes? Where to buy? I went to my local home depot and lowes and neither had sets with smaller sizes. Good brands? Also is it best to use the screwdriver handle type, socket, or L bend? Thanks much for any help.

Mike

Home Depot normally has a Husky branded handle with multi tips for the smaller torx sizes. HD-74502 T is marked on the handle of mine. Tips are stored in the handle.
Lowes also has some sets, #0501837 is an 18 piece set.
I like small screw driver styles, provide good feel removing and tightening so you do not over torque.

Most common sizes - T6, T8, T10

But get a set for that occasional odd screw.

Husky from Home Depot is good.

Wiha and Wera are the best. KC Tools has great prices. I got 6,8,10 in screwdriver and a full set in L-key.

Please, please do yourself and your knives a favor and get a good set.
I use Wiha and have never had a problem with the tool or with it removing screws.
You can shop til your blue in the face on amazon or ebay for em.
Cheers

Wiha has worked great for me. The no-name set I got at local big box store absolutely sucked; the metal quality was terrible.

I got the Wiha 36392 is a 7-piece standard short arm torx L-key set.

If you were in Home Depot and didn't find them you were likly looking in the wrong place. There is a security set in the hardware department made by husky that had some and another made by Klein in the electrical tools bay. That set has many various sizes that work with a lot of knife screws

Just picked up Wiha 75965, needed the Pentalobe bits to dismantle my air book...love the bit approach, replace as needed,

Just ordered WIHA TOOLS 36291
Nice but Wiha 26790 set is better.

For knives, you don't need/want the power that the big-handled drivers deliver - makes stripping threads easier.

Also the slimmer drivers have the rotating top that lets you maintain pressure while turning which allows quicker action.

I snapped a wiha t6 tip off... Was trying them out comparing them to Wera. Yeah... I've never snapped any of my Wera's :D
