So here is my dilemma. I have an old Paramilitary D2 and I'm on a knife cleaning kick. Problem is the torx screws holding it together are badly stripped. Probably from my dumb ass using cheaper torx bits back in the day. I've tried everything from rubber band tricks to heating it. Is there a way to safely remove them and replace them? Or will Spyderco service this thing if I send it in and fix my mistake?

Best bet is to send to Spyderco. They'll charge you a bit but they are pretty good at fixing this.

+1 send it to Spyderco, they will fix it correctly and install new screws.
Regards,
FK

I had to send 2 PM's back for the same. They were great and charged a very fair fee that included shipping.

If you REALLY want to fix it yourself, you can just destroy the head by making in a flathead and use a flathead to remove it. I've had to do this twice and it works better if the screws are not sunk in.

Sucks, I always feel like a moron to have to do this...even though I'm verrrry careful to not strip them....

Hope this helps! Hood luck!

Done that on a PM2, but i had a replacement scale ...

Also note that Spyderco countersinks with 100 degrees, replacement screws are hard to find.

Better send it in.

Hopefully you learned your lesson and got some wiha or wera bits?

Well it's on its way back to Spyderco. Not sure how much it's going to cost as replacement screws were not listed on the repair authorization sheet they sent me. I guess I will have to wait for an email or phone call. I did ask in the notes to not use thread locker on it.

Just got the tracking info. Already on the way back to me. Don't think they even charged me so I'm wondering if they were able to fix it. Guess I'll find out in 3 days.
