Hi all,

A little about me first. I am 29 and live in sunny Cyprus!

Right I have been in to knives since I was a child and only had cheap no make blunt knifes and now I have not decided to collect good quality knives.

I want to collect knives, machetes and axes!

I am looking at the site http://www.heinnie.com (I have heard good things about them)

I am looking for a fix blade that is very sharp out of the box and for the max price of 120 Pounds (but am happy to go to 150. I was looking at the blades by Eickhorn has anyone got these and can offer some advise. All advise a suggestions are welcome.

I only as about sharp out of the box as I have never sharpened a knife in my life and I am worried I would break it. I have seen DMT Aligner Deluxe Kit if that would be a good investment.

Thank you.

Welcome.

It doesn't matter how much you spend on a knife....it's going to get dull if you use it. If you have a dull, expensive knife that you cannot sharpen is no good....you might as well have bought an inexpensive knife that you can learn to sharpen on.

Looks like you have some good choices on that site. Bark river or BKT won't let you down. Though not on that site ZT are worth looking at great knives.

If you're just starting out, I would not recommend going overboard on price with your first purchase(s). Wait until your more familiar with what you may prefer in a knife before you spend a lot of money.

Mora knives (Morakniv) are a great place to start a collection. They aren't the fanciest knives, but they are inexpensive ($10-$50), come razor sharp, are well built, use good carbon and stainless steels, come in tons of varieties and are relatively easy to sharpen. A few popular Mora knives that come to mind -

Mora Companion
Mora 510/511
Mora Bushcraft series
Mora 2000
Mora Classic series

Have fun!

tollickd,I think Marcinek gave you some solid advise.Buy a good quality inexpensive knife and a sharpening system and learn how to sharpen before spending alot on a knife.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM tollickd

I'd recommend the moras above and ether buy a sharpening system (lansky sharpmaker ect) or you could try your hand at a bench stone it's a rewarding skill!

I would go with a mora for fixed blade and a tenacious for a folder. Might as well get a folder and a fixed if you are brand new to this for less money than a fixed for 150.

obviously those aren't the only choices but those would be mine

I agree with the others. Start out with some quality, high value choices, learn how to use and maintain them, and find out what you like and don't like. There are some great choices available - Victorinox Rucksack, Mora Buschcraft Black or Orange, Becker Short Clip or Drop Point, Tramontina, Condor...and get a sharpening stone.

Yeah, definitely get a Mora, I have like 4 of them. And if you're worried about sharpening them you could just get a strop and strop them every night that you use them hard. That way they will never get "dull". Don't ever let your knives get dull just a heads up. For a folder there are a million options some good brands to look for would be Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade and CRKT.

Folders:
Buck 110
Victorinox Swiss Army Knife
Spyderco Tenacious
Opinel
Spyderco Ladybug

Fixed:
Mora
Buck 119
