Ok...I know this question has been asked to death around here...and I am really sorry.
But Im totally new to all this! I just started last week and made my first purchases yesterday!
I need to know what I need to buy to maintain my new toys. The best sharpeners, the best lubricant and cleaners..etc. Can I use my gun cleaners and tetralube for my knives?
Ok these are my toys, tell me what specific sharpeners and tools do I need to maintain them. Sharpeners for serrations and stuff.
1) Micro-tech Mini Socom silver tanto part serrated.
2) RECAT Sifu
3) Benchmade BM42AS
4) Coldsteel Mini Gurkha 9in blade
5) Coldsteel Magnum Tanto II San mai

Please assume I dont know anything and be specific about models and brands. I have read posts on the DMT products and Spyderco products but still don't know which models to get. Please just tell me what to get.
Is there any books or website source about tips on sharpening?

Thanks

Start with the Sharpmaker 204 from Spyderco and a large coarse stone (I would suggest a large DMT diamond stone). Use the Large stone to grind in relief and the sharpmaker to set the edge. You can grind relief with the sharpmaker, but the DMT will save you
A LOT of time!!! Don't know what relief is? Read the FAQ, or (preferably and) read John Juranich's book, "The Razor's Edge Book of Sharpening". It is the bible of sharpening! He has his own equipment that he uses and sells for sharpening (I have a kit and love it) but the principles in the book will work with anything.

Thanks guys!
I decided to get the Lansky diamond set with extra serated sharpeners.
Ive read through so much stuff and a lot of people responded to my post. I have decided to take the advice of one of them.
This place is great!
