My Delica 4 is still on its factory edge (Blame it on my SAKS :) ) but it's dulled noticably. It's still sharp and cuts through cardboard, canteloupe and the like with ease....but it's not shaving sharp anymore.

I was wondering what'd be the best way for me to touch it up, back to hair shaving sharp? I don't have any money or traditional sharpening materials handy, except for a cheap 3 inch sharpening stone. Also have a rod in the kitchen.

I was thinking about getting some real fine grit sandpaper for this. I've used it to sharpen a SAK before and figured it could do the job here.

Anything else you guys might recommend?

Sand paper is a good alternative but use the wet dry type with adhesive back. Start with heavier grits and finish with the lighter grits and strop with leather or cardboard from a legal pad. Make sure the surface you're sharpening on is flat and not cupped. If your comfortable freehanding that should be all you need. Good luck.

I feel alright doing freehand. When stropping on leather or cardboard, is it the same motion as when using a sharpening stone? Do I need to use any abrasive solutions to strop? As you can tell, I need a stropping 101. :P

It is edge trailing, meaning you pull back on the blade with the edge pointed away from you, trailing the stroke.

Generally, you can strop on plain leather or cardboard as a final finishing step, it does little by itself to sharpen a dull blade aside from mild alignment.
