So I woke up today and decided to try and strip my BK2...... With Emery cloth of all things! Well, I'm about a half hour into sanding by hand as we speak and the only parts that want to strip are the ridges along the cutting edge and spine.

The furthest I've gotten on any flat surface is a area on the belly that strips with natural use.

Aside from getting paint stripper or an eletric or belt sander, any recommendations?

I'll post pictures if my camera will turn on.

Are you just using your hands and the sand paper to sand the finish off? I wrapped my paper around a small eraser and that helped even things out a little better.

Go get something chemical. The convenience is worth it.

Sweet jeebus, gluttons for punishments.

Um, heavy grit sand paper, and a piece of 2x4 to attach it too. Good luck, bro, that stuff don't wipe off. :D

Sanding the coating off a BK2? You're nuts. In the time it will take you to go buy some Klean Strip, come back, use it, and polish her off you probably still would only be 1/8th done sanding.

You could always go baton through a bunch of tough wood and get some of it rubbed off the blade, it would be easier than sanding haha.

jeebus. only thing that would take longer then emery coth is if u just wiped the 2 on ur jeans until the coating came off!

Chemical Warfare...thats where its at!

How many licks does it take to get the coating off a bk 2? Can't answer that, but I know if you start with 100 something sand paper your off to a good start.

Kleen strip, Krud Kutter, Jasco, any of those as long as they are Methylene Chloride based. Wear gloves & don't get it in your eye, I hear it stings.

I used a razor scraper and it took me roughly ten minutes.

Kleen Strip and some gloves, 15-20 minutes and you can scrape it right off. I just did a BK14 tonight.

What does no money mean to you people? I don't have any money what-so-ever, and my parent's won't pay for chemicals for me.

Also, part of my doing this by hand is I like working with my hands, which stems from my being in scouts and liking the outdoors.

then you have emory paper? time? that will work it. have fun!

So sounds like you need to keep sanding.

Make sure you have a low enough grit sandpaper, too high will take more work and take longer to finish.. I used 80 grit. Then worked my way up to higher grits once all the black was gone.

Sounds like your gonna have some Popeye forearms when your through. Hopefully your speech is not impeded and hpefully you don't smoke a corn cob pipe and have a lazy eye...or that could have really been a cruel joke.

Any way...good luck with the project. Persistance and perserverence will hand strip a Becker!!
