Tough cheap folder?

Hey all. Im looking for a cheap folder. Not an edc but something that i can take to bars/parties, places i dont really need to have a knife but carry one anyway, and the such. I want something tough thats not going to break, but cheap enough so that if i happen to misplace it i wont get too mad($30ish). Ive been using my Kershaw Leek but realized that an AO + booze isnt the best combo, and my Delica 4 wave but id be too pissed if something happened to it. Gotta be 3 in or under and sheeple friendly. It needs to be tough, dont want to wake up and find a bunch of dings in the blade. I was thinking the Spyderco Meadowlark, hows the 8Cr13MoV steel blade hold up.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Carl

I think that the Camillus EDC is a great little knife. It has a blade of Aus8, and is relatively light and has a 2.95" cutting edge (or thereabouts). I got mine for about $27, but since the demise of Camillus they are getting a little rarer... still on Eprey though...

Reports are that the Byrd steel holds up fine.

Kabar Doziers are 3" and can be had for about $20 on line. They have AUS8 blades.

Benchmade mini-Pikas are 3" and in the $20-30 range. Benchmade is changing the design. I don't think the new ones are out and you may have to look around to find someone who has the older design.

thanks, so far u guys have been a lot of help. Right now i got it down to the Camillus EDC or the Kabar Dozier.
I am yet to own a Benchmade and im really looking forward to it but right now im looking for something i can beat on without regret. I dont think thats the Pika.
Ive found a coupld Camillus EDC so far but there all 440 blades, so im going to keep looking

forgot to mention the Meadowlark, its still in the race.
I love Spyderco and I know i cant go wrong there, but it would be nice to add a little diversity to the collection.

So Camillus, Kabar, or Spyderco?

Carl

I'd suggest a Buck 112. Tough as nails, but small enough to to be reasonably discreet.

Have you considered Okapi?

a 907e , a 1978 , and a c1223 , all tough , cheap , and I reckon they look good :)

There's some good Swiss Army Knives in that price range. More useful than a single blade.

I'll second the Kabar Doziers, and the Spyderco Byrd folders.

Check out the A. G. Russell Ultimate Pen Knife, and it's bigger brother at $20 and $25.

It's now my edc, alternating with my cf caly 3. The Robin is a tad smaller than the Medowlark but very practical. I didn't like the stainless steel handled version. But the G-10 is nice.

Consider the Buck Hartsook Neck Knife. Would be easy to store behind the belt, in the wallet etc and fixed beats folding as far as durability goes.

In my party-hard days (ages 18 to 25), my edc was an original Gerber LST. I bought it in 1989 for about $18. I in fact still have it; it is in my desk drawer as my office utilty, don't-care-what-happens-to-it knife. It's blade is pretty short--about 2.5 inches--and yes it's cheap, but I think that had some advantages, especially when I went to a few strip bars and the bouncers took it from me (they gave it back to me when I left), as they had a sign saying no knives (or guns) allowed. If the knife had been too nice (or big) I suspect it might have been too desirable for the bouncer not to 'lose.' As some who both likes carrying a pocket knife and (I assume) getting blinding drunk like I did (do), you may want to go with a knife you won't hate yourself for losing.

Well, Camillus CUDA EDC is very good small folder, you can do a search here on bladeforums - I posted about it several times, and also check this thread

BUT you mentioned 440 version - AFAIK it was never produced with 440 steel (but it was in 154CM, D2, AUS8 and Talonite (there are rumors it was also in 420HC, but according to Camillus 420HC was used for handle not blade))

I also suggest you to check out Byrd line of Spyderco

If getting drunk enough to lose or damage your knife is normal for you, I don't think what knife to choose is your problem. Sorry if that offends you.

I have used my G-10 Cara Cara to batton through all types of wood. No dulling as far as I can tell. I Highly reccomend the Meadowlark in G-10!

Get yourself a regular Delica, put a zip tie over the top of the hole.

Now you have another Waved Delica that'll be easier to replace than the one with the actual Wave feature on it. Plus, you can draw it just like your regular Waved model.
