Tough day for Usual Suspect

Man u got it tough. I hope you heal quickly. I guess being a cop means you can't hurt the other guy without a lawsuit huh??? Kinda sucks. Good luck dude

damn, what a day. but keep in mind, you are doing something that 98% of the population won't/can't do, but we need you to. I appreciate it.
cheers,
DWE

Sounds like you don't get it any better over there than I do over here.

Would still prefer to be over there though !

Sorry to here about you and your partners melee. Been there... Done that....still doing that.

Your other partner (SOCFK) stood fast by your side ready and available. It took nicks and dings without complaining. Whoever said a dog is the most loyal thing a man can own obviously never owned and cherished a SOCFK! (or add any EKI knive of your choosing)

Now THAT is a bad day! Did the perp "fall down" a few times on his way to the car? Hope so...

Hey Scott!
Give up the police work and go into Extreme Fighting, the pay's better, you get to wear cooler uniforms, and you're allowed to hit BACK!

Scott,

Glad that you and your brethen are OK. I am curious about the seat chewing prep -- was his behavior drug enhanced? How would you rate his pain compliance tolerance?

Seth

Scott, did that rat file a complaint because you damaged his fist with your face?

Glad that you're okay.

This is easily the worst fight I have been in so far. The guy had zero pain compliance. I think I may have dislocated his thumb trying one technique; I had his thumb lying flat against his forearm, with no response. He also did not respond to the O/C spray. When we initially hit the ground, my hand was in front of his face, and that is when he bit me. He held on for about 10 seconds, and I was stunned that he did not come away with a mouthful of my skin. Then, in all the confusion, when I following got my wrist out of his mouth, my partner grabbed my arm, thinking it was the bad guys, and pinned it to the ground. I took a few more shots because of that! Plus, I lost my flashlight when the fight broke out, and it literally rolled right on the foot of one of his friends, about three feet out of my reach, so I was trying to keep an eye on that too. I think they call that a dynamic situation!

His mom, girlfriend, aunt and two friends were watching, so we were VERY disciplined in our actions.

I sure do hope his tests come back HIV/HEP negative. Also, he did have alcohol on board, but I do not know about drugs. I am hoping the detectives working the case do a blood test to find out.

Oh yeah. I usually get off at 0200 hrs. This incident took me until 0745 to finish with the hospital visit, paper, etc. I was exhausted. Then, when I got in my car to go home, it wouldn't start! Another 45 minutes switching out cars. I took the next night off!

Wow Scott, he tried the old "George the Animal" Steele vinyl and stuffing eating trick?
I sure hope wherever you are, the laws are different than in NJ. Here a suspect can refuse to submit to HIV/HCV testing and most refuse just to break chops and make you sweat. There have been numerous situations where police or EMT have gotten needle stuck etc, where the perps just won't take any tests, probably because they either don't care about their own lives/or know already.
From what I understand, and I've really been into it the last year because a very close loved one has HepatitisC virus, this is much more of a danger than HIV. While the HIV virus dies when exposed to air, HCV can live outside of the body in blood(wet or dry) for months. Make sure you get tested more than once over a period of time. The fact is that more people die every year now from HepC than Aids, mostly because they are unaware they have it until too much damage has been done to the liver. It is curable if caught early enough(though not in 100% of people) so stay on top of it.
Take care,
Dave

Thanks Dave. We have the ability to compell testing, so that is good.

Unfortunately, I am too aware of HepC. Just about 6 months ago I finished an 18 month series of testing from a previous exposure.

But I, like you, have faith in the Big Guy, so regardless of what happens to my body, it is part of a plan.

Scott, you are lucky man. I had a coworker that got bit bad once. Right on the top of his right bicep. The guy took a mouthfull out of the Officer like he was eating an apple . . . nasty injury.

We have had several monsters like that here and have gone to issuing the M26 Tasers to each Officer, in addition to an ASP and OC. We get alot of questions about why everyone carries two pistols.

So far we've been pretty impressed with the results, but like gas, nothing is 100%. Nothing beats good DT skills when the chips are down.

It ain't your Momma's stun gun.

Glad you're up on the Hep C issues. Keep an eye on your hand and arm for blood poisoning, also. I got that last time I got bit and it's no fun at all. At least it's not permanent.
