Tough Decision...

I need your opinions guys! I'm trying to decide between the Buck Strider Tarani 882SBTG CMT (ATS-34/G10 scales) and the Benchmade Presidio 520. I intend it to be my personal everyday carry knife. My Buck Strider 880 is a tad large (ie. thick) for everyday carry and it's also rather heavy. I carry my knife in my pocket of my jeans (off duty) and pocket of my cargo pants (on duty). I also carry an Emerson CQC-7 and like this knife very much but want something a bit bigger with the drop point blade design found in the 520 and 882. Can I trouble you guys to give me your input? I've narrowed my search to these two knives (I like 154CM and ATS-34) and would appreciate any input, bad or good about these two knives. Thanks in advance!

If I had to choose between these two knives I would have gone with BM520 plain edge, I never handled either of of two, but from reading the specs and looking at the pics BM seems to be slimmer design for EDC with lots of cutting power, and AXIS lock, wich is superiour in my opinion to liner. Also I think BM has a better look.

Of those two, I would go with the Benchmade 520 - It has a superior lock, the fit and finish will probably be better.

Though you should take a look at the Benchmade 805 with a longer blade, still drop point, great handle ergonomics, 154CM and G10 scales.

Yes, I would prefer the plain edge 520 if I decided on this model in the end. The 882 is not as wide as my 880 (which I like) and the weight of the 882 is lighter than my 880. Does anyone know comparatively the width of the 520? On the website (benchmade.com) they list the width of the blade on the 520 as 0.13" but I can't find the blade width of the 882 on the buckknives.com site. I'm not fond of the blade profile on the 805 (I prefer the bluntness of the 520).

I'll put in a vote for th 882. Very well put together knife, you won't be dissapointed.

Here is a direct link to the page of one of the bladeforum's member, dedicated to Buck 882. You won't be able to read a lot, since it's in Russian, but look at the pictures that may give you the idea of it's width.

In fact this is the older version of 882 with plastic on the handle, metal pins and a thin liner. The newer one according to this website has got G-10, metal screws and a bit thicker liner lock. Hope it helps!

I've never handled that Strider, but I own a plain edge BM 520. It's the beefiest knife I have, so from my perspective it's big as an EDC, but I usually carry a Calypso Jr. during the day at work b/c it's more sheeple friendly. Your situation may be different.

That said, the 520 is a great knife. Built like a tank. Smooth open, really good detent and solid lock up. I love the Axis lock. The T6 handle has good grip with the machined ridges. It's my favorite knife of all the ones I own, I wish I could carry it more often.

Well, I decided on the Benchmade 520 plain satin finish blade! I don't have a knife with the Axis lock (which after trying an Osborne 940 I came to really like!) and the positive remarks submitted by other members about this knife persuaded me in this direction. The blade on the 520 is comparatively hefty (1.3") thickness wise which was also a consideration. Thanks for all your input and the additional links that some of you included. I can't wait for it to arrive :D :D :D There's so much great information on this site!!!
