Tough folder

What are your favorite heavier duty folders? Am looking at something 3.5" or little less. Not to bulky but very sturdy. No particular steel preference but solid lock up and strong enough for light batoning and prying? Looking at ZT, Emerson, or spyderco. What do you all recommend and why?
Thanks for the input

Nothing suggested in this thread will be as tough as a 50$ RAt Izula.

That being said, check out the Spyderco Manix 2. Cheap to replace if you break it, one of the toughest locks on the market and a very comfortable, solid handle.

When the going gets tough, I'll trust an Emerson over just about anything else. You really have to handle one to appreciate it. An A-100 would probably do.

I own a ZT 0301 and a ZT 0500 MUDD and they are pretty tough folders. They are NOT lightweight - they are both quite heavy and a handful.

I would recommend either one - the model type depends on what you plan to do with them.

Honestly - I have never used a folder for light batoning or prying. I think no matter how tough the folder at some point you will weaken the joint / lock.

I like my ZT0500, ZT0200, Strider AR, but all are over the 3.5" blade length you requested. Another very heavy duty folder I have is the Boker Titan Defender, and it has a blade that is 3.40" long.

If you want to do any batoning remember to unlock the knife first. If you try to baton with a knife in the locked position the lock will break.

The ZT 500 looks solid enough, but I've never held one. The Endura G10 is better for more lightweight stuff.

Cold Steel American Lawman is what I highly recommend. I've had one a week now and have already been impressed. Check out the reviews and you'll be surprised. It's solid, inexpensive, and sports a 3.5" AUS8 blade. The ZT knives are good too. I've got an Emerson and will never buy another.
