Hi there,

Was wondering if anyone in the SoCal area was going to do Tough Mudders? Would be fun to get a team of bladeforum members for the course.

I did a search and only came up with one hit. Has anyone else done this event before? I was going to do it last year, but work saw to it that i couldn't. This year will be different!

No offense meant but you're probably not going to get many takers with a swastika in your avatar and your tag line. I realize that this symbol has different meanings in different cultures but in western cultures it's associated with nazi's which is a very negative association. You should either remove it or give an explanation of what it means to your culture in your tag line. Otherwise I don't think you'll get many takers.

shotgun,
I didn't know this until I went to Korea but that is a Buddhist religious symbol, it faces the opposite way from the nazi symbol. Chris

I think Shotgun's response is exactly the reason NOT to change it!

Not sure how long you've had the avatar and signature but I imagine it's not the first time you've had such a response. I hope you are not offended by Shotgun's comments.

If that's you in the pic, it's some serious looking ink! Would like to know more about it, is it a full suit, traditionally applied?

RescueRiley is the only person I can think of that has mentioned anything like that and he's in NYC.

Shotgun I think approached the subject very tactful. You normally don't see Asian waves in nazi tattoos, definately an Asian inspired design. Very unlikely it's hate related.

Good luck on the Mudder. I did Tough Mudder New England last May and am signed up for this years on Mt snow. They are brutal, but lots of fun. Definitely do it with a team for the commeradarie. I agree that a blade forums team would be fun.

no offense taken shotgun. Since i've been on the forums, i've only had two people who actually said something to me in a private message, but after a little explanation and their own research they saw what it is and that i'm asian. I've met some forum members in person and at the local knife show here in california. Definitely not some hate monger.

xxdrpxx- The tattoo has a lot more meaning than just being buddhist/asian themed,(long story short, found my birth family after a really long time) so it's something that i'm proud of and don't care to take down.

The symbol itself while some westerners and europeans may have misguided view of it, shouldn't be pushed aside as always thought of as a symbol for hate. Things will never change if people just always turn a blind eye.

Colog- Thanks, i'm kind of doing it on short notice so i don't have any friends joining me. I did find some people from my area who are going, so i might tag long and maybe we'll do our own team. But having a bladeforum team would definitely be a lot of fun. Did you record your time? How much prep time did you give yourself?

Our team time was 4:30. We went as fast as our slowest member, which was probably me lol. The New England race is on the face of Mt Snow, which is a fairly large ski mountain. The course was 10 miles with 26 obsticals. For prep we just ran hills and did calisthenics. Should be able to run at least 5 miles comfortably. I'm prepping differently this year by hiking ski mountains as fast as I can.

Edited to add that all the water obsticals had water that was around 40 degrees. The cold water if one of the hardest parts. I do t know how cold SoCal will be, but I have heard they truck in tons of ice. That's hard to prep for.

Few more pics to motivate you.

Getting electrocuted. Yes it hurts.

And more mud, just deeper. The water is ball numbing.

thanks matt :p

colog- i saw some vids from the arizona mudder and the pits were ice filled, so i'm sure they'll do that for so cal. I'm not sure how cold it is there since i'm currently in korea, but i guess i could tea bag the snow here to prep for that (every night it's at least -7cel ). I have swam in some chest tightening water in Socal during the winter, but i'm sure this will be a much different animal. It's awesome you were able to get pictures of yourself doing the course. I really want a couple shots to bring back to Korea to show people. Really looking forward to this. I hope i can be as tough as mustache man when i get his age :p thanks for uploading all the great pics

No prob for the pics. Brightroom does a great job of taking pics of the competitors and it helps to have some friends along the way. Even if you do it solo, there will be plenty of people to help you along the way. It's all about commeraderie whether you know the people around you or not. Just get yourself in shape and don't quit until you get your beer at the finish line.

Tough Mudder in New England at Mt. Snow in Vermont is intense to say the least. If you were out this way I'd join the team.

Cool beans. Just to be clear I'm not offended by it. I just know that some people will see it and instantly have an emotional response to it. Symbols mean different things to different people. I don't hate symbols, I hate the evil intentions behind the symbol. And I get you on the deep meaning a tattoo can have. I have one of my avatar that means a lot to me as well. :D

I just finished up Tough Mudder Utah this weekend, 12 Miles 21 Obstacles It just happened to rain the day and night before so Mudd was EVERYWHERE. One of the hardest things I have done in one day!

Nice Photos Colog.
