Looking for a fairly tough and not too expensive knife. A knife I can use and not feel badly if I neglect it. I don't know too much about the following, but am looking at them.
CRKT M21 PE
CRKT M16-03Z PE
Camillus Heat PE

What do you think?

something else to consider,
there is a Benchmade Mini-Ambush for sale in the Individual Production sections of the sales forum for $30...

Any preference in size?
I'd take a Benchmade griptilian any day over those. For just a little more dough, it'll be worth it.
If you don't wanna spend that much check out the Spyderco Native, Delica, Calypso Jr.

I agree with the above...Save-up your money 'till you can buy a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian or it's big-brother, the Griptilian. With those you get the Axis-lock, 440C steel, a reverseable pocket-clip, and your choice between dual thumb-studs or "the hole".

Try a BUCK 110, no bells or whistles, but a great knife. They can be bought at WallEye Mart for around $30.00. Or for another $20+ a Spyderco Delica or Endura are good choices. LOL.

Anything mentioned above is a good choice for the money. I've carried an M16-03Z for about a year. It's a good knife for the money, holds a good edge and if I lose it I won't cry for too long. :D

Thank you all for the input.
The price is firm...no more than $50 bucks, so the Grip is out.
The knives i mentioned are 3 1/4 to 3 1/2", and that is where I want to stay.
I am quite familiar with the Spyderco's I own many of them.
I am not familiar with the M-16, M21, & Heat. Thank you c. m. A., for your views on the M1603.

Camillus EDC or Spyderco Delica/Endura FRN. $50 with high-grade steel. I really don't care for the AUS-8 in the CRKTs, or liner locks. The 154CM in the EDC or VG-10 in the Spydercos are far superior. Same price, better knives. the Delica and EDC are only 3" though, slightly under your wishes.

Well if you own the Spyderco's why would you ever need another knife! ;)

For non-Spyderco in that price range how about a Buck 110 as someone else mentioned. Tough knife, and cuts well for its size.

I want another knife to use and abuse and not feel badly about. I would not think of doing that to my Spyde's or Benchmades.

OK... AUS 8 = Bad!

All knives I was looking at are AUS 8, so I must re-think.

AUS-8 isn't necessarily bad, but at this price, better can be had.

This knife is far from being a beauty with its cheap Zytel scales and the unattractive beadblast finish, but it's a good workhorse - and the flipper is a nice feature. But after some medium abuse, its liner tends not to be the most secure lock around...mine has not collapsed yet, but I expect it to slide away the next time I subject my M16 to hard use.

Other CRKT option include the Crawford/Kasper folder (designed for combat, but it doubles as a large, stout utility knife), the Hammond Cascade (might look a bit boring, but it's a lockback that comes with everything you need in a heavy duty folder) and the Hawk D.O.G. - you won't go wrong with either of these three knives.

I guess it's subjective. Personally I think Aus-8 is a fine steel and CRKT do a pretty good treatment on theres.

In that price range Spyderco is one of the few companies that put high grade steels on their knives. What other knives were you thinking of?
