I'm confused now
I thought I'd try some.
on 1095
when I called brownells the guy I talked to said he uses it for his stuff he made from 1095 so I ordered it,,
I got the order yesterday and it says on the can
(not for water or air quenched steel..)
so I called them back to their tech department again and I told this guy not the same one I guess ..
what the can says
and I told him of the concerns I had when I ordered it and told them about them.
now they say, no do not use it on water quenching steel..

someone please enlighten me..on this stuff. of those that use it..
and have tested the steel on a rock tester there after..
they will take it back including S&H .. they were good about it..
I'm not sure why the conflict in info though..?:(

I haven't used it but they ought to get with the manufacturer and get the story straight !!

I used tough quench at the first at the time what I was using was evidently a slow quench, Then when going for my journeyman smith stamp bought some new stuff and blades broke when flexed, I found out that they had switched to a fast quench oil.

It works well on damascus, and maybe some other steels when using the multiple quench stuff I talk about, but with 52100 and 5160 just too fast.
I don't know about the 'don't use on water quench stuff'.

Do Fogg is the master of 1095 IMO and he uses Tough Quench. Try it you may like it :)

thanks guys I think I will it's not a lot in cost but for the slower stuff needed I'm using Texaco A so I don't need it to replace that:D

Ed I'm glad to hear what I have may be faster..
I think I will try it out..
if Don if is using it on 1095 I'll give it a try...

Hi Dan,

I use the Tough Quench and it is a fast quench. I use it for W2 all of the time.

Dan I use tough quench on that 1095 steel for my gun springs that you sent me. Oh yeah I need more. :)

I also needed some more, I have another 3 gallons that should be here tomorrow. When I moved my shop some got spilled from my quench tank, so now I will be back up to my normal level.:)
