Tough time deciding on first Emerson

For the past week I have been test driving the Emerson wave and thumb disk with a Kershaw cqc-7k.

I really like the wave feature and rough size of this knife. So at the end of this week I will be ordering a real Emerson. I have narrowed my choices to the (iconic) cqc-7 , mini commander, or the mini roadhouse.

The slight recurve of the mini commander isn't a problem with sharpening as I carried a ZT0301 every day for over a year. The chisel grind of the cqc-7 doesn't bother me either as I now carry a Spyderco Military, a great slicer, daily. Along with a 3"-3.5" folder , hence my size preferrance for this Emerson. The mini roadhouse does , of course, have a v-grind which I am used to.

So.......

Does any of these three stand out head and shoulders above the rest? Or will any of them pretty much equal the others?

All three are great, just different flavors.

The mini Commander and mini Roadhouse have a V grind with a chisel edge.

I would go with the 2 I mentioned only because the regular 7's handle feels boxy to me whereas the others are more ergonomic. If your hand size is medium to larger that probably wont be an issue.

The real question you're asking is which are you getting first. ;)

I have the same problem only mine is which am i getting next. Just me but recurves arent my favorite. Roadhouses are badass and 7s are iconic. Id probably get the icon first.

I say Mini Commander since recurve isn't a issue for you. The handle will have a familiar feel to the Kershaw, just a little more filling as the Mini Commander has a taller handle but also thicker handle too. 7 can feel boxy. Mini Roadhouse is cool but I don't like the upwards blade angle on a low slung blade. I prefer blades that are straight inline with the handle or even point downwards a little like a Kukri.

I'm gonna vote for the 7. I really like the handle, even though it is boxy it is comfortable to me in any grip. I know you said the chisel grind doesn't bother you but if you prefer a v grind the 7V or 7A would be a great choice.

The 7 would be out for me as I can't "come to grips" with the grip. OTOH, the M-Com has an amazing grip and is one hell of a knife. I gave mine to my wife and need another now that I think about it. I love the full size Roadhouse (in my pocket right now) but find the mini a touch too short in the grip. I prefer the Mini 15 over the mini Roadie, but the opposite in full size. In fact, even though the Mini 15 is not one your list, it should be and would be my choice.

Yes indeed, my 1st choice, too. You get a thumb disk, a wave, a blade with belly AND an tanto tip, and all in a perfect size that shouldn't scare anyone and will still be useful for a multitude of daily chores.

And it is also very hard to catch in stock (stonewash/plain) at my favorite knife pusher.

Thanks for all the comments. Very helpfull to hear about the grip ergonomics. I am not lucky enough to be able to handle any of them.

No bad choices in the lot! I love the big brothers of all mentioned... the one a reach for first in the Roadhouse. Iconic nourishes my mind, but the badass of the Roadhouse soothes my demon soul!

I would go with the CQC-7 of the three mentioned, the handle is the most versatile. The other two will either fit, and you'll like them, or they won't and you'll hate it. Also, the chisel grind cuts and sharpens very well.

Any reason the Horseman isn't on the list? It's probably the most versatile and utilitarian blade design of Emerson's lineup...
