I have three Buck's I can't find info on.
1. Buck 500 C (the C is "square"), nickel bolsters/liners, dark wood scales, two nickel (stainless? pins), blade is about 2.75" and OAL is 7.25". No buck logo on the handle but stamped on the blade
2. Buck 701 C (same "sqaure" C) stockman, nickel, dark wood, no logo on the handle, largest blade is 2.75", closed length 3.75"
3. Buck 704 U stockman, nickel/dark wood, no logo on handle, large blade is 2.25", closed length 3.25"

My sons have a bunch of knives in their collection they want to sell and these are part of the set. I just can't find any info. I did a search and come up with older models. I think we bought these sometime between '99 and '01. Thanks for any help.

Mike

Thanks very much. They are in new condition - just been sitting in a display case. Unfortunately, no boxes because we just didn't have the foresight to keep the boxes when we started out. Best regards, Mike

Okay, I think I got it. The 500 seems to be a 1999 "Squire" although it is marked 500, not 501. The blade (sharpened portion) is 2.75", but the closed length is more like 4.25", not 3.375 as stated on the website. The 701 stockman is a '99, and the 704 is a '98. I also was able to nail down their 103 Skinner as a '99, a Rush as an '05, and a Strider black/black as an '07. All are new but I guess I'll just have the boys run through some pricing research again and see what they come up with. They have a little more than 70 knives (Buck, Kershaw, Case, CRKT, etc) they want to try to sell as lot so they can invest in some new additions. Thanks for the insight. Mike

The handle length of a 500 is right at 4 1/4" and the sharpened portion is 2 3/4" so I believe that you were right the first time. The Squire (501) is 3 3/4" closed.

The Duke (500) has been discontinued for a few years so if you were looking at Buck's website, that's why you didn't see it.

These are both bone, but here's a 500 and a 501 shown together.

500 it is! Thanks for the comparison pic. Only buck's I ever had as youngster were a 110 and a 103 skinner. In the opinion of my Uncle Berg, that's all we would ever need unless we came across a Grizzly roaming the Guadalupe range (not a chance). Thanks again. BTW, I'd take pics but my camera is probably the worst digital on the planet. I'm going to try my son's phone camera sometime tomorrow. Thanks. Mike

Blade, I would agree with your Uncle Berg . Those two would cover most any needs in the field . Perhaps a 426 Bucklite or V52 Selector . A little opinion this way or that but still close . I would add a decent boning/quartering/filleting/bait knife like the 121 or 6" Empress Trio and you've got all the knives one man would ever need . A decent saw would be nice as well . DM
